IF first impressions count for anything, chances are Josh Daicos and Callum Brown’s pre-season baptism with Collingwood shapes as the start of a long relationship.
Daicos, son of champion Magpie forward Peter, and Brown, son of former captain Gavin, spent a week with Collingwood in the pre-season — and impressed.
Coach Nathan Buckley said while the presence of the teenage pair made him “feel old”, he was delighted with their attitude.
“Josh and Callum spent a week with us during the pre-season and it great to have them down — fantastic young men,” he said.
“They really thrived in the environment here.
“Just having them around was first class and both them threw themselves into it flat out. Nothing was too hard.
“Even when they fell short, they dusted themselves off.
“If that’s anything to go by, I think they’re set for a really good TAC (Cup) year.”
Daicos and Brown could be considered as father-son draft selections.
Buckley said he remembered speaking to Darcy Moore, son of Brownlow medallist Peter, five or six years ago.
Buckley urged Moore to make every day count in preparation for a possible AFL career and he wanted Daicos and Brown to do the same.
Moore, 20, made his debut last year and has now played 11 games.
