IN-DEMAND Collingwood young guns Darcy Moore and Jordan de Goey have indicated they want to remain at the Magpies beyond this season and the club expects to have them signed “sooner rather than later”.
Both Moore and de Goey are out of contract at season’s end and are being chased by rival clubs.
IN DEMAND: SEVEN CLUBS HUNTING IN-FORM PIE JORDAN DE GOEY
YOUNG GUN: SYDNEY CHASING DARCY MOORE
STAYING PUT: FOUR PIES RE-SIGN, INCLUDING STEPHENSON AND REID
Sydney has been confirmed as one club interested in luring key position player Moore, while the Herald Sun has reported seven clubs, including Carlton and North Melbourne, are chasing de Goey.
Collingwood is confident of retaining both and have received word from Moore and de Goey that they are keen to stay at the Holden Centre.
“(List boss) Ned Guy is working through that,” football boss Geoff Walsh told SEN. “He’s met with each of those boys’ managers and certainly, while they’re not imminent, they’re not going to be signed tomorrow, they’re both a fair way down the track in terms of discussions.
“Both boys and their managers have indicated they’re more than happy at Collingwood and that they’re comfortable in not looking elsewhere.
“We’ve certainly fully endorsed that and both boys and their managers know they’re very much required players.
“We’d expect something would happen there sooner rather than later.”
Moore and de Goey were drafted in the same year, 2014, with top-10 selections by Collingwood. De Goey was taken with pick No.5 and Moore at No.9 as a father-son selection.
De Goey is one of the hottest players potentially available in this year’s trade period as his form continues to catch the eye after booting six goals in the Magpies’ 28-point win over the Saints on Saturday night.
Moore, meanwhile, is currently recovering from his second hamstring injury of the season and is not expected to return until after the club’s bye in Round 13.
The key position player has been used in defence and attack by coach Nathan Buckley in 2018.
Collingwood this week announced prized youngster Jaidyn Stephenson has extended his contract by a further two years, until the end of 2021, while swingman Ben Reid has also inked a new one-year deal.
