Collingwood veteran Tyson Goldsack ready to enjoy journey in 2019 after ACL woes

A FIT Tyson Goldsack says he is getting ready to launch into the season and enjoy the whole journey this year, while teammate Lynden Dunn is running surprisingly well after his own knee reconstruction.

COLLINGWOOD defender Tyson Goldsack says he is hoping to be part of the whole journey for the Magpies this year after missing all but the pointy end of last season.

Goldsack tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during pre-season last March but made a remarkable recovery to play in all four of Collingwood’s finals.

While thankful he was able to get back for the games that mattered, the 31-year-old said today he felt he missed out on plenty in the lead-up to September.

“Last year I worked so hard to get back and only be able to play the finals, which was nice,” Goldsack said.

“But to be able to go through the whole process this year from the start now and play the games and join in the journey throughout the year (will be good), because the guys did so much work during the year and week-in, week-out they kept on fronting up and I couldn’t be part of that. So I’d like to be part of that process and win the games throughout the year to get us to finals and win one more final this year.”

Speaking at Collingwood’s training camp on the Gold Coast, the 165-game veteran said his body was “feeling good” as he began to ramp up training in a bid to “launch into the season”.

Goldsack said fellow defender and 2018 ACL victim Lynden Dunn was also “moving well” just six months on from his own knee reconstruction, hitting 29km/h on his GPS tracker when running.

While last year’s five-point Grand Final defeat to West Coast is still fresh in the minds of Magpies players, Goldsack said two key recruits who were showing plenty on the track would bolster the side as they look to make amends.

Goldsack said Western Bulldogs premiership player Jordan Roughead joining the club was a “match made in heaven”, while the experience of the returning Dayne Beams — a 2010 Collingwood premiership player — would also prove invaluable.

“(Roughead has) experienced what it’s like to play in a Grand Final and win one so we’ll take all the experience we can get,” Goldsack said.

“We get Beamsy back as well who’s won one. So we’re just trying to get all these parts together and go one step further.”
