Adam Treloar says he would still choose Collingwood over Richmond, despite Tigers’ premiership

ADAM Treloar knew he was “openly hated by Richmond fans” after he famously chose Collingwood over Richmond because they had a “better list”. Given his time again, he says he would have chosen his words better, but would have still picked the Pies.

ADAM Treloar says he has no regrets about choosing Collingwood over Richmond despite the reality he would already be a premiership player if he had landed at Punt Rd.

Treloar said yesterday he knew he was “openly hated by Richmond fans” after he famously chose the Pies over Richmond because they had a “better list”.

But he believes landing at Collingwood has improved him as a person as well as a player, investing in relationships at the Pies in a way he failed to do at Greater Western Sydney.

He is desperate to knock over his old club GWS on Saturday to take on Richmond in a preliminary final, but not to prove he was right when he made that decision on a new club.

“Obviously watching (the Tigers premiership) I was like, ‘Wow, two years before that I could have been there’. But hand on heart I wouldn’t change anything for the world,” he told the Herald Sun.

“Everything happens for a reason. I love these guys more than footy.

“At the Giants I was so young and they were just my footy mates. I didn’t give as much to them away from the field as I could have.

“I have a genuine passion for these guys and I wouldn’t change a thing about going to here or Richmond because Collingwood has helped shape me as an individual and a footballer.”

Treloar says he should have chosen his words better in November 2015 when he said Collingwood have “a younger list, a better list who in a couple of years time hopefully can win a premiership”.

“I didn’t really mean offence whatsoever to Richmond,” Treloar said ahead of Saturday’s final against the Giants.

“I thank them for their interest in me but I probably could have worded it better.

“I thought I was better suited to Collingwood because Richmond had players like me.

They had Dusty (Martin) and Trent Cotchin and they didn’t need someone like me.

“At the time we had Swanny (Dane Swan) but we didn’t have other line-breaking players so if I had my time back I would reword it.

“I am Collingwood through and through and openly have a soft spot for the Giants, but outside of them Richmond is the team I love watching the most.

“So coming up against them is something that excites me.

“If that were to happen what better way to knock out the reigning premiers than in a preliminary finals.

“Clearly they are the benchmark but it starts with this mob this week so we have to get over the line first.”
