CARLTON players put a smile on the faces of dozens of young fans this morning with some impromptu kick-to-kick at the end of an open training session.

Hundreds of fans turned out at Ikon Park to watch the light open training session ahead of tomorrow night’s match with Gold Coast but it was post-training that provided them with the biggest thrill.

Coach Brendon Bolton asked players to go over to the fence and invite kids out onto the ground for a kick with their heroes at the end of the session.

The kick-to-kick went for about 10 minutes before players signed autographs and posed for photos before eventually leaving the ground.

Bolton’s Easter surprise quickly drew widespread praise on social media, Essendon chief executive Xavier Campbell tweeting, “What a great initiative”.

The Blues are outsiders for tomorrow night’s clash with the Suns at Etihad Stadium but are brimming with confidence after recording their first win of the season over Essendon last Sunday.

MEANWHILE, Zac Fisher will be Carlton’s fourth AFL debutant in as many games this season when he plays against Gold Coast on Saturday night.

All four of the Blues’ newcomers this season were picked up in last year’s national draft.

Fisher will wear the No.25 guernsey on Saturday night — 50 years to the day since Carlton’s most famous No.25, Alex Jesaulenko, made his senior debut.
