Carlton midfielder Matthew Kennedy says VFL star Michael Gibbons deserves an AFL opportunity as he continues to train with the Blues in search of a spot on the club’s list.
Gibbons, who won a second VFL J.J Liston Trophy while playing for Williamstown last year, averaged 28 disposals and seven clearances in the VFL and has impressed Carlton players and coaches since being invited to train with the club last month.

“You look at his record. He’s one of the best in the VFL. I think for him he’s done a lot of hard work and probably hasn’t had that reward that he’s been after so for him to get that after a number of years of putting his hand up, he really does deserve it and hopefully for his sake he can.”
The Blues have the option to add Gibbons to their list as part of the pre-season supplemental selection period, with a deadline of March 15.
