Dale Thomas could earn a new contract after a strong month of football for Carlton
DALE Thomas has turned his form around and put himself in a position to win a new deal with Carlton, a contract that looked unlikely at the start of the season.

CARLTON says Dale Thomas has put himself into a strong position to be considered for an unlikely contract extension.
And the Blues say they will not sway from their youth-led resistance even if they trade for rival stars at the end of the season.
Carlton will on Sunday turn out in orange socks as part of the “Carlton Respects” program promoting gender equality and the prevention of violence against women.

It is part of Carlton’s determination to promote a more inclusive environment, with Human Rights Commissioner Kate Jennings last year added to the board.
The Blues are also working hard to promote gender equality in their club staff and attract a greater proportion of female members.
Carlton hopes to replicate Sunday’s signature game in the AFLW next year.
Thomas, who voided a contract clause guaranteeing him a new deal if he played 17 games, has averaged 19 possessions and a goal in the past month as a pressuring forward after being dropped earlier in the year.
Trigg said Thomas and fullback Liam Jones, about to sign a new two-year deal, had given themselves every chance.
“I think the same points can be made with Dale as when questions were asked about the trigger clause,” Trigg said.
“He hasn’t put a foot wrong with the way he trains, the way he immerses himself with the team, the way he shows leadership.
“They are great starting points for a renewal or otherwise. With seven weeks to go he and a number of other players have put themselves in a really strong position.
“It is always a performance-based game and we will see but we are pleased with the way Liam Jones has reinvented himself.”
Carlton has just secured its fifth Rising Star nomination in 11 weeks, but is a contender for the services of GWS players Josh Kelly and Jacob Hopper.
Trigg said no matter what decisions were made in the post-season the Blues would continue to bring young players into their club.
“We won’t talk about individuals at other clubs but the Rising Star nominations are one reflection of the talent we have been able to bring into the last couple of drafts.
“If we supplement it from the outside, we still want to go to the draft. We are building the depth of our group and I would confidently say whatever we do it will be for relatively young talent.”
