CARLTON has spent its bye round securing its future stars by re-signing a trio of first-round draft picks.

As forecast by the Herald Sun last month, West Australian Sam Petrevski-Seton and rangy Geelong midfield-forward Charlie Curnow have both agreed to new deals.

Petrevski-Seton has been secured until 2021, extending his deal by three seasons.

Manager Jason Dover said the exciting midfielder loved Melbourne and had shown few signs of homesickness.

Curnow, who is shaded in Carlton running drills only by his brother Ed, has signed a two-year deal that takes him through to 2019.

The Blues have also re-signed powerful 200cm forward Harry McKay until the end of 2019.

Blues chief executive Steven Trigg said the club was thrilled with signing Petrevski-Seton on what was effectively a four-year contract extension.

Carlton entered the season aware it needed to again ward off Adelaide’s advances on Bryce Gibbs, with forward Levi Casboult also out of contract after considering a trade last year.

But the 3-7 Blues are confident Gibbs is happy at Carlton, with Casboult saying recently as a Carlton fan growing up he was keen to stay at the club.

The Blues controversially traded earlier picks to Hawthorn for a clutch of late selections this year but seem to have nailed a second year of draft selections after several seasons of botched selections dating back to 2011.

The Blues secured Petrevski-Seton (selection six), Zac Fisher (pick 27), Harrison Macreadie (pick 47), Cam Poulson (59), Tom Williamson (61), and Patrick Kerr (65).

All but developing forward Kerr have shown excellent signs in the senior team after only 10 rounds.

Gibbs said recently that while he was happy at Carlton it was too early to tell whether he would again want to return home to Adelaide.

But his form is so exceptional this season that a trade would still remain a win-win for the Blues given Adelaide would need to offer up something special to secure him.

Carlton brokered a contract with Dale Thomas that has seen him remove a games-based-trigger clause from his contract that could have seen him again on a lucrative salary next year.

Like all clubs the Blues now have significant salary cap room and will be a contender for Brisbane forward Josh Schache.
