Before the rumour spread, the Blues posted an image on Instagram of Cripps training at Ikon Park on Monday.
Cripps claimed his second John Nicholls Medal after a runaway win in Carlton’s best-and-fairest this year after earning his first All-Australian honour.
The 23-year-old was also elevated to the club’s captaincy, a role he will share with veteran Sam Docherty.
He acted as stand-in captain for eight games in 2018
“I try and lead by my actions, and I really believe that leadership is something you can’t master, but you always try to improve. So the biggest lesson I learnt this year in that stand-in role was to lead by being true to yourself,” Cripps said the Blues’ awards night.
Earlier this year Cripps signed a three-year contract extension which will keep him at the Blues until the end of 2021.
