UNDER siege coach Brendon Bolton has conceded Carlton has a mountain of work to do following the 86-point hammering from North Melbourne in Hobart.

The Blues slumped to a fourth consecutive loss to start 2018 in another performance which will do little to silence the critics about the direction the side is headed.

Carlton managed to kick just 4.6 in what was the club’s lowest ever score against the Roos and the lowest at Blundstone Arena.

Bolton cut a forlorn figure post match as the pressure continues to mount with each defeat.

“Clearly disappointed, not what we stand for and we need far, far more contributors, particularly around the contested ball and ground ball gets,” Bolton said.

“Our group, our leaders and our younger guys said they need to be able to spread the load and have more contributors, that’s the summary.

“(The players are) frustrated, disappointed and not what we stand for, there is an incredible amount of work to do but in saying that they are determined to grow as a group.

“They know there is a fair bit to do, they need to roll their sleeves up, we have to roll our sleeves up.

“We are in it together as a group, coaches and players, and that’s what makes strong footy clubs. You can’t do this on your own, it’s about staying fat.”

The Blues were not helped by the 11th hour withdrawal of captain Marc Murphy, who aggravated his plantar fascia in the warm-up just minutes before the first bounce.

However, Bolton was not willing to make any excuses for his side which lost the contested ball count by 30 and coughed up 16 more inside 50s.

“Significant impact, he’s our captain and organises a lot of things … one player can’t be the defining factor in a win or loss, we make no excuses about that,” Bolton said.

“We will go and analyse the tape thoroughly, we will challenge the scores against, they scored from stoppage and turnover so we need a strong look at that.”.
