The victorious Brisbane Lions have kicked off Mad Monday celebrations at an inner-Brisbane pub.
Eye-catching costumes included Harris Andrews dressing up as a child that had been abducted by an alien, Reece Torrent and Luke Lloyd as Mario and Luigi, and Henry Smith and Carter Michael as the Bananas in Pyjamas. Other outfits included Rick and Morty, Spider-Man, Walter White from Breaking Bad, Sacha Baron Cohen’s character Ali G, Bananas in Pyjamas and even an eshay.
Brisbane Lions co-captain Harris Andrews and Cam Rayner arrived with the 2024 AFL Premiership Trophy.
Midfielder Josh Dunkley said the squad had been celebrating hard since Saturday.
“Can’t beat it, unbelievable feeling,” he said.
“Over the last couple of nights I have probably slept six hours.”
When asked who has been “best on” for the celebrations, Harris Andrews answered “Joe D”.
Defender Tom Doedee, who arrived in a Christmas-themed dress, was cautious when approaching the venue in his outfit.
“This is a concerning amount of cameras for what I look like,” he said.
Midfielder Hugh McCluggage said the team had been enjoying themselves following the win.
“I got some sleep both nights, it’s been better than nothing,” he said.
“We went to the pub last night after Brighton Homes (Arena), it’s just been a good time.”
McCluggage added that he was looking forward to returning back to work.
“I would love to, I will enjoy this one first and then we’ll see how we go,” he said.
The team returned to Brisbane from Melbourne late on Sunday afternoon after a emphatic victory over the Sydney Swans in the Grand Final.
Thousands of people packed out the grounds of the Brighton Homes Arena at Springfield to greet them.
