COLLINGWOOD has made three changes as it seeks to get its season back on track against Essendon on Anzac Day.
Daniel Wells will play his first game for the Magpies after battling calf problems following his departure from North Melbourne as a free agent. Jarryd Blair, Jesse White and Josh Smith have been droped. Essendon has named first-gamer Ben McNiece and Aaron Francis at the expense of Kyle Langford and Conor McKenna (suspended). Richmond has named superstar Dustin Martin for its Anzac Day eve blockbuster against Melbourne despite doubts over a groin injury. Oleg Markov replaces Nick Vlastuin (concussion) in the Tigers’ only change. Former Bomber Michael Hibberd will play his first game for Melbourne on Monday night after missing the pre-season competition and first four rounds with an Achilles injury. Jesse Hogan returns from suspension and the Dees have also included Tim Smith and Jay Kennedy-Harris. Dean Kent, Sam Weideman, Mitch Hannan and Tom Bugg make way. Meanwhile, West Coast’s boom recruit Sam Mitchell will miss this week’s clash against his former club, Hawthorn. The four-time premiership Hawk-turned-Eagle injured his leg in last week’s win over Sydney and couldn’t recover in time despite the nine-day break. Mitchell is the only out for Adam Simpson’s team with Mark Hutching, Malcolm Karpany, Jack Darling and Dom Sheed coming into a 25-man squad. The Hawks have included Ty Vickery, Daniel Howe and Kade Stewart for Sunday’s match but Jaeger O’Meara will miss a second week with knee soreness. Meanwhile, Sydney has named three big names and its sixth debutant for its derby against GWS. Isaac Heeney, Kurt Tippett and Gary Rohan are all back while Lewis Melican will make his AFL debut. Robbie Fox, Aliir Aliir, Nic Newman and Oliver Florent are out while the Giants have regained Steve Johnson at the expense of top draft pick Tim Taranto
