COLLINGWOOD has named Jamie Elliott to face St Kilda but Chris Mayne has been dumped for the forward, while St Kilda has axed Paddy McCartin. RECAP OUR SUPERCOACH CHAT
COLLINGWOOD forward Jamie Elliott will return on Easter Sunday against St Kilda but big-money recruit Chris Mayne has been dumped.
The Magpies have made just the one change for the clash against the Saints at Etihad Stadium. St Kilda have made two changes with former No.1 pick Paddy McCartin axed. McCartin and Shane Savage have been omitted but Alan Richardson’s team has been boosted by the return of midfielder David Armitage. SCROLL DOWN TO SEE THE FULL SUNDAY TEAMS Richmond has also made one change to its winning line-up with Ben Lennon omitted for Connor Mendaue, while Brisbane has made two changes. Hawthorn and Geelong are yet to name their final teams for the Easter Monday clash. They will do so on Saturday afternoon. We already know Jaeger O’Meara won’t play after being struck down with a knee injury. O’Meara, who has long battled knee issues, sustained a knock to his knee in last week’s heavy loss to his old side and has failed to recover in time for Monday’s clash. “We were hopeful he’d get up for Monday’s clash but unfortunately he’s still not 100 per cent,” Hawthorn football boss Jason Burt said. ROUND 4 TEAMS AND SUPERCOACH CHAT RE-CAP OUR COVERAGE BELOW “Given Jaeger hasn’t played much footy in the past two years, we’re taking a cautious approach with this one. “We’re hoping it will be a short recovery and that he will be ready to go for Round 5.” It will have been 589 days between games, but Magpie Jamie Elliott is poised to line up for Collingwood for the first time in 18 months after he was selected in the team’s extended squad for Sunday’s clash with St Kilda. Elliott, who has been plagued by back and ankle injuries over the last year and a half, kicked five goals in the VFL last weekend to stake his claim for selection. Jarryd Blair and Lynden Dunn have also been included in the Magpies’ extended squad. Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge has rewarded Clay Smith and Josh Dunkley for “knocking on the door” at VFL level with recalls for Good Friday’s clash with North Melbourne, axing premiership duo Caleb Daniel and Shane Biggs. Liam Picken has kept his spot after last week’s concussion, while the Kangaroos have recalled defender Scott Thompson and top draft pick Jy Simpkin to replace Sam Durdin and Ryan Clarke. St Kilda ruled out Jack Steven on Thursday clash as he continues to recover from a punctured lung, paving the way for young forward Ben Long to make his debut. “It’s quite frustrating for Jack,” Saints coach Alan Richardson said. “He trained strongly last week, let alone this week. He wants to be out there playing but clearly this is about his health and wellbeing, and Jack’s one of those guys that you do have to protect from themselves a bit.” Long, 19, is a cousin of Hawthorn star Cyril Rioli, and has been named in the Saints’ extended squad for Sunday’s match, while key midfielder David Armitage passed a “strenuous fitness test” on his groin to earn a recall.
