RICHMOND has named Dustin Martin to face West Coast while Nick Riewoldt looks set for a miracle return for St Kilda. SUPERCOACH CHAT
DUSTIN Martin has been given the all-clear from surgeons and trained without a helmet as he is named to play against West Coast just a week after fracturing his cheekbone.
The gun midfielder played out the majority of last week’s win over Collingwood with the injury and coach Damien Hardwick said he is hopeful the Brownlow Medal chance can have a strong influence on Saturday against the Eagles. “He’ll play. He’s a tough lad, as we know - he played three and a half quarters with that same injury last week and he’s got the tick off from the surgeon to play,” Hardwick said. SEE THE TEAMS AND RE-LIVE OUR SUPERCOACH CHAT BELOW “We’re happy for Dustin to play and hopefully he plays a pivotal role in the game come Saturday.” Hardwick said whether Martin plays in protective headwear, which he trialled earlier this week, is “yet to be decided”. “As you can imagine, I don’t think Dustin is too keen for the helmet,” he laughed. Carlton is also dealing with an injury concern to its star midfielder but Patrick Cripps has been named despite a fractured jaw. Cripps suffered the injury in an incident that saw Melbourne’s Jordan Lewis suspended for three weeks but Dennis Armfield is the only confirmed out at this stage. Meanwhile, St Kilda is set to regain inspirational veteran Nick Riewoldt. Just a fortnight after fears his career could be over due to a knee injury, the star forward has been named to face Brisbane. The Saints have lost key midfielder Jack Steven for the clash and included Billy Longer, Ben Long and Jack Sinclair on an extended bench. The Lions will blood two top draft picks with No.3 pick Hugh McCluggage and No.17 Jarrod Berry named on the field along with last year’s No.2 pick Josh Schache. After a disastrous start to the season Fremantle has made six changes to its team, including debuting Harley Balic and last year’s No.8 draft pick Griffin Logue. Tom Sheridan, Hayden Crozier, Brady and Ethan Hughes also come in to face the Western Bulldogs with Zac Dawson, Danyle Pearce, Jon Griffin, Nick Suban, Cam Sutcliffe and Darcy Tucker axed. Several debutants have been named for Round 3 including Jordan Dawson (Sydney), Sam Durdin (North Melbourne), James Parsons (Geelong) and Tim Smith (Melbourne).
