AFL round 24 teams: Port Adelaide v Richmond, Adelaide v West Coast

Adelaide has dropped former No. 2 draft pick Riley Thilthorpe from its 22 for its season-ending clash against West Coast.

While Port Adelaide could have some tall timber back as the Power hunts a top-two spot.

With nothing to play for other than pride after the controversial circumstances in which their finals chances ended at the hands of Sydney last week, the Crows have made three changes to take on the Eagles at Optus Stadium on Saturday.

Shane McAdam’s year is done with a fractured cheekbone suffered against the Swans, as is former captain Rory Sloane’s after he went to hospital following a poke in the eye during the clash.

And after just one goal in his last five games, Thilthorpe will be the sub for the Crows.

Luke Pedlar has been elevated from the sub last week and is joined in the side by key forward Lachie Gollant and small defender Patrick Parnell.

Crows footy boss Adam Kelly said they deserved the opportunity against the Eagles.

“Luke came on at halftime against Sydney and did just as we would hope for in the sub role, positively impacting the game, winning critical contested possession and being a physical presence around the ball,” Kelly said.

“Luke’s progress this year has been really pleasing and he gets the opportunity to finish the year off strongly this week.”

“Lachie’s form has been strong throughout the season but in particular the past month, during which he has really hit the scoreboard.

“He thoroughly deserves his chance this week and comes into the line-up with his confidence high.

“Patty is another in the squad that has been consistently good at SANFL level awaiting an opportunity to present in the AFL team.

“He gets the opportunity this week to add to his AFL experience, a level where he has already shown he can perform at, including a stand out performance against the Saints in Round Nine.”

Kelly hinted that Thilthorpe could even play a different role coming off the bench against the Eagles.

“While we have favoured smaller types in the role throughout the year to good effect, we believe Riley has the capability to impact, even outside of the customary forward/ruck role he has played during the season,” he said.

Over at Alberton the Power have named three ruckmen in its extended squad to take on Richmond at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

With Sam Hayes already named on the field, Dante Visentini and Brynn Teakle are in the Power’s extended squad to take on the Tigers.

Small forward Francis Evans has also been named on the extended bench.
