Could Josh Jenkins be traded to Melbourne club?

Out-of-favour Adelaide tall forward Josh Jenkins booted six goals in the SANFL on the weekend, but will that be enough for him to regain his place in the Crows’ side? If not, would he be open to a trade back to a Melbourne club?

Josh Jenkins would only consider a trade back to a Melbourne club if his SANFL stint dragged into the second half of the season.

The Adelaide star continues to languish in the SANFL despite six goals in his last outing, desperate to be recalled against Melbourne on Saturday night.

Jenkins, 30, is well established in the city with a wife Hannah and daughter Lottie and is hopeful he can see out a $550,000-a-season deal that expires in 2022.

But he could be forced into a trade if coach Don Pyke continues to ignore him at AFL level later into the season.

It comes as AFL great Nick Riewoldt called for captain Taylor Walker to be dropped for continuing poor form.

Walker jumped out of the way of a ground ball contest with fellow captain Shannon Hurn in the second quarter of Adelaide’s loss to the Crows.

He said Walker wasn’t immune to being dropped like fellow star Bryce Gibbs, dumped last week in another confusing selection decision.

“That (Hurn incident) will be an embarrassing moment for him if it’s brought up in review, particularly as captain of the footy club when you’re there to drive the high standards,” Riewoldt said.

SOFT?: TEX WOULD LIKE TO HAVE TIME AGAIN

“I think just because you’re captain doesn’t mean you’re immune to going back to the SANFL. One thing that’s really important in a football club is integrity of selection.

“So if you’re going to go out and make statements — like dropping Bryce Gibbs, like dropping Josh Jenkins — then everyone should be exposed to the same level of scrutiny and integrity in picking the team.”

Jenkins, Gibbs and the club’s third emergency on Saturday night cut forlorn figures running laps after the game to build fitness given a SANFL bye.

Pyke says Gibbs knows why he was dropped despite a two-goal, 22-possession performance against Brisbane in Round 9, but refuses to enlighten the fans.
