Hawthorn is resting its oldest player and a young forward ahead of its Perth clash with Fremantle, while Geelong and Adelaide welcome back key men.

Hawthorn has “managed” Shaun Burgoyne for Sunday’s clash with Fremantle at Perth Stadium as coach Alastair Clarkson hinted the club would endeavour to look after the 38-year-old off six-day breaks.

Burgoyne, who is eight games shy of the magical 400-game figure, could still yet play as the medical sub after he and Jacob Koschitzke were “managed” from the starting 22, but kept in the four emergencies.

Clarkson said on Saturday he would wait until as late as possible before finalising the Hawks’ team to take on the Dockers, given the expected wet conditions in Perth.

“We are obviously mindful of (Burgoyne’s) age and all that sort of stuff,” Clarkson said of his evergreen veteran.

“The six-day breaks are giving us some thought about how we manage him across the season. We will just sort of suck it and see each week.”

Michael Hartley comes into the team, while Tim O’Brien will play after being the medical sub last week.

Clarkson said the Hawks had taken some lessons out of the heartbreaking Easter Monday loss to Geelong.

“Hopefully those who follow our club can see there is some emerging talent coming through our group and it is going to take a bit of time,” he said.

“But bit by bit we are making small progress without getting the wins at the moment.”

The Dockers made another five changes to their line-up, but the return of skipper Nat Fyfe after a week on the sidelines due to concussion is a massive boost for the home side.

He will be joined by Sam Sturt, Tobe Watson and debutant Josh Treacy as the inclusions. They come in for injured trio Hayden Young, Lachie Schultz and Sam Switkowski. Stefan Giro, who has been dropped.

Geelong midfielder Sam Menegola returns in the Cats’ clash with Melbourne, along with Brad Close and Zach Guthrie.

Max Holmes and Charlie Constable were omitted, while injuries meant Shaun Higgins and Francis Evans both face stints on the sidelines.

The Demons omitted Tom Sparrow.

North Melbourne best-and-fairest winner Luke McDonald will boost the Kangaroos’ weakened defensive stocks for the struggling Kangaroos’ match against Adelaide.

Darcy Fogarty is back, while Rory Sloane (eye) and Nick Murray (omitted) are the outs for the Crows for the clash at Marvel Stadium.
