ADELAIDE forward Josh Jenkins has so far been cleared of serious injury after initial scans at the Epworth hospital on Saturday following an elbow to the ribs.

The Crows said in a statement on Saturday night scans have so far been positive.

“Crows forward Josh Jenkins has had initial scans which have not shown any structural damage to his ribs or internal organs,” it read.

“He is undergoing further assessment and the club will provide another update as soon as more information is available.”

Jenkins was rushed to the Melbourne hospital after copping a heavy hit from Hawthorn debutant Teia Miles during the Crows’ clash with the Hawks at the MCG.

Jenkins copped an elbow to the ribs from Miles as both players contested the ball at half forward.

The key forward was in immediate pain as he lay on the ground clutching at his stomach area and took a long time to get back to his feet.

He was helped by trainers from the field but was moving very slowly as he was sucking in deep breaths before being taken straight down the race and into the rooms.

Ambulance officers and an emergency doctor were called to the Adelaide changerooms as

Jenkins struggled to walk to the ambulance.

He was taken to Epworth hospital.

The immediate fear was for his ribs and potentially his lungs, one of which could have been punctured by the impact.

Jenkins appeared in good spirits early Saturday evening, tweeting he was buoyed by his side’s victory but provided no update on his condition.
