NEW Crows list manager Justin Reid has warned that he will not compromise the club’s future for the sake of one player.

Vowing to compile the best list possible to help Adelaide achieve its goal of winning a third premiership, Reid will walk into the hot seat next month with the pressure on to re-sign star midfielders Patrick Dangerfield and Rory Sloane to new long-term deals.

While Sloane is expected to soon put pen to paper on a new contract, the much-sought-after Dangerfield’s signature might not be secured for some time as clubs lobby for his services.

Reid did not want to elaborate too much on the pair’s futures given he doesn’t officially start with the Crows until next month.

But he made the point that clubs can fall into the trap of compromising their futures by paying too much for one player.

“That is something any club has to be mindful of,’’ said Reid, who has spent the past 14 years as one of the country’s leading player agents.

“I have seen some clubs fall into that trap and we have to make sure at Adelaide that we take a whole list view.’’

Reid, the son of former Crows football manager John Reid who was a key figure at the club when it won consecutive premierships in 1997 and 1998, has replaced David Noble as Adelaide list manager.

Rory Sloane is expected to re-sign with Adelaide shortly.

Noble was recently promoted to the position of head of football at the West Lakes-based club.

“I just felt the time was right for a new challenge,’’ said Reid, who has been linked to the job for months and leaves Elite Sports Properties where he headed the company’s AFL talent division.

“It was a tough decision but I had to look at where I wanted to be long term and that was club land.

“I’ve grown up around football clubs (via his dad), am passionate about the football industry and like the thought of starting something as a team, trying to achieve something together and seeing the end result.

“That is something that really excites me and (Crows coach) Phil Walsh’s team-first approach is also something which resonated with me.’’

Reid noted the touch of romance associated with his move to the club where his dad was so successful, while he is close friends with Adelaide board member Mark Ricciuto and former Crows captain Simon Goodwin, now at Melbourne.

Like most list managers, including Port Adelaide’s Jason Cripps, Reid will be based in Melbourne.
