The Crows and Brad Crouch will soon start negotiations over a new contract after he remained in Adelaide after the trade period deadline, despite being consistently linked with a big-money move away from West Lakes.

Key Crows personnel, including newly appointed coach Matthew Nicks, faced questions throughout trade period as to whether Crouch could be lured out of Adelaide.

Crouch wants a five-year deal to remain at West Lakes and with just one more year on his current deal in Adelaide there was speculation that a club could come in with a big offer to tempt the Crows to part with the 25-year-old gifted midfielder.

Gold Coast made its interest in the 2019 Crows best and fairest winner public, and were considered to be in a strong position to potentially convince Adelaide to consider a deal for Crouch and also give him the contract he is seeking.

But the Crows were able to hold onto Crouch and with Nicks in the hot seat after an exhaustive search can now start a charm offensive to ensure he isn’t the latest player to want to leave West Lakes.

Crouch is in New Zealand, but was able to be contacted by Nicks who reinforced to the midfielder just how important he was to the Crows.

On Thursday Crows list manager Justin Reid said he was expected the negotiations to go on for a while.

“We never put a time frame on this,” he said on SEN.

“He will be away, the coaches will be away and when they are back we will sit down with his management.”

After spending the entire 2018 season watching from the sidelines with a long-term groin injury, Crouch arguably had his best year at the Crows in 2019.

This earnt him the Crows club champion award earlier this month and after the win he said he hoped he could remain at Adelaide in the long term, despite the constant speculation.
