SuperCoach studs and duds: Who starred and who flopped in Round 19

STUDS AND DUDS: HEATH Shaw was an angry man on Saturday, and he wasn’t the only one after some below-par SuperCoach performances. But other players scored off the charts. Did you get lucky?

HEATH Shaw was an angry man on Saturday and SuperCoach could have a fair bit to do with it.

His outburst would make a lot of sense if Shaw had Rory Sloane, Zach Merrett, Joel Selwood and Lance Franklin in his SuperCoach side. And himself.

Teammate Aidan Corr must have had Taylor Adams, Dustin Martin and Paddy Ryder because he did’t seem too bothered by Shaw’s antics.

That is to say the final home-and-away SuperCoach round was very much a mixed bag.

Scroll down for our studs and duds from Round 19.

THE TACKLE: HOOKER, BOMBERS FAIL FINALS TEST

TRIBUTE: RIEWOLDT RANKS WITH THE GAME’S BEST

HAWTHORN 72 d SYDNEY 66

HAWK STUDS: Jarryd Roughead was one of the most popular picks at the start of the season and while most have jumped off the Hawks skipper, 33,000 loyal coaches enjoyed his season-high 130 points against the Swans. Pity one member the Herald Sun sport editorial department who traded him out last week for Rory Sloane. Ben McEvoy (113) continued his strong year while Isaac Smith, Dan Howe and Liam Shiels all reached 100.

HAWK DUDS: Just 41 from a concussed Blake Hardwick and Conor Glass couldn’t back up his 84 on debut, scoring 43.

SWANS STUDS: You would have got good money on Tom Papley being the Swans’ highest scorer. He was the only Sydney player over 100. There were a few in the 90s but not many popular SuperCoach picks except for Nic Newman (93).

SWANS DUDS: Not a great start for the weekend for SuperCoaches with Dan Hannebery (74), Lance Franklin (65) or Josh Kennedy (50).

NORTH MELBOURNE 76 d MELBOURNE 72

KANGAROOS STUDS: Blast from the past with Andrew Swallow scoring 131 in Hobart. Jack Ziebell, Luke McDonald and Shaun Higgins were all great for the Roos.

KANGAROOS DUDS: Another injury for Jarrad Waite and just 37 points. Back-up ruckman Braydon Preuss managed 39 and Sam Durdin 41.

DEMON STUDS: Clayton Oliver had had a super year but he outdid himself on Saturday with a 170-point haul thanks to 12 tackles and a goal on top of his 33 disposals. Jordan Lewis and Max Gawn were also above 100.

DEMON DUDS: Jack Trengove (20) and Mitch Hannan (21) had dirty days.

GWS GIANTS 98 d FREMANTLE 86

GIANTS STUDS: Dylan Shiel left the field last week with two different injuries but it didn’t bother him on Saturday, scoring 115. Josh Kelly is averaging 112 for the season after a 106 while Rory Lobb and Nick Haynes just scraped into three figures.

GIANTS DUDS: We’re not sure what Heath Shaw and Aidan Corr were arguing about after the siren but it wouldn’t be surprising if Aidan has Heater in his SuperCoach team. Just 55 points this week from the one-time regular in the studs section.

DOCKER STUDS: SuperCoach players who copped a late Jake Lloyd withdrawal and had to rely on Luke Ryan as cover were dancing in the street after he scored a mammoth 136. Nat Fyfe is definitely back after a 132 and is now a captain option for the rest of the year. Good games also from Lachie Neale and Darcy Tucker.

DOCKER DUDS: Disaster for Connor Blakely owners. After running hot for a month he suffered a shoulder injury and scored only seven points.

PORT ADELAIDE 63 d ST KILDA 61

POWER STUDS: Ever wonder why the SuperCoach scoring system rewards hitouts to advantage? Watch the final 14 seconds of this game again. Paddy Ryder topscored with 130 and the man he gave matchwinning silver service to, Robbie Gray, was next with 112. Jared Polec posted 111 after a great four-quarter performance.

POWER DUDS: Some SuperCoach players punted on Justin Westhoff looking for a point of difference up forward last week and it blew up spectacularly with a 42-point return. Sam Powell-Pepper (31) has hit the wall.

SAINTS STUDS: Monster game from Luke Dunstan with 140 SuperCoach points. Seb Ross scored 132 but will rue letting Gray slip away in the dying seconds. Lots of intercept marks from Jake Carlisle (107).

SAINTS DUDS: Josh Bruce covered plenty of territory but scored only 45 points. Nathan Brown’s 33 was about in line with his season average (38).

RICHMOND 98 d GOLD COAST 65

TIGER STUDS: Guess who? Dustin Martin started slowly but fired up in the second term and motored home to post a game-high 142. Daniel Rioli kicked three goals and set up a few more to get to 131 and another four Tigers broke the 100 barrier, including Alex Rance and Trent Cotchin.

TIGER DUDS: Toby Nankervis played mostly as a key forward and while it worked for the Tigers, his 66 points weren’t great for SuperCoach owners. Shai Bolton didn’t offer much in the way of bench cover with 38.

SUNS STUDS: Aaron Hall had leather poisoning, picking up 40 touches and 134 SuperCoach points. Pearce Hanley reminded us what he’s capable of with 119 and Tom Lynch scored 113, which isn’t bad considering his opponent Rance was also over 100.

SUNS DUDS: Callum Ah Chee finished the night with a busted shoulder and just 14 points. Down night for Ben Ainsworth (33).

GEELONG 123 d CARLTON 58

CATS STUDS: Tom Hawkins answered the critics in emphatic style with six goals and 192 SuperCoach points. Lots of big numbers from the Cats but Patrick Dangerfield’s 108 was remarkably his lowest since Round 6.

CATS DUDS: Joel Selwood copped a heavy tag and was restricted to just 65 points. James Parsons had a team-low 51, spot on his season average. Just 62 from Zach Tuohy.

BLUES STUDS: Team-high 117 from Levi Casboult with Marc Murphy and Sam Docherty also flying the flag, but not blowing up the stats machines like they did earlier in the year.

BLUES DUDS: Bryce Gibbs wore a blanket named Scott Selwood all night and scored 58. Jacob Weitering (19) is in a horrible form slump.

WESTERN BULLDOGS 127 d ESSENDON 97

DOGS STUDS: The Bont did Bont things, roaring home to a 123 but he was pipped by Jordan Roughead’s 127. Shane Biggs played perhaps his best AFL game, scoring 115, and Jason Johannisen enjoyed the freedom of playing forward to kick four goals and score 104.

DOGS DUDS: Luke Dahlhaus’s revival was short-lived, posting 72 as his season average dropped to 94.

BOMBERS STUDS: Michael Hurley returned to premium defender scoring (118) and Joe Daniher scored 113 from six goals and 11 marks (five contested). Brendon Goddard and Dyson Heppell were also above 100.

BOMBER DUDS: Zach Merrett was on -1 at quarter-time thanks to a Tom Liberatore tag. He recovered a bit but his final score of 67 was his lowest since Round 5 last year.

COLLINGWOOD 103 drew with ADELAIDE 103

MAGPIE STUDS: Just about the complete game from Taylor Adams — 34 disposals (15 contested), seven marks, eight clearances, six tackles, three goals and 144 SuperCoach points. Jeremy Howe and Daniel Wells weren’t far behind.

MAGPIE DUDS: Jordan De Goey couldn’t repeat his 130 of a week ago, producing 52 points against the Crows. Adam Treloar (86) had his moments but his owners would have wanted more.

CROWS STUDS: Brodie Smith was the standout, scoring 127 to edge out hot midfielder Matt Crouch, who scored 120 and is averaging 121 over his past five.

CROWS DUDS: Who traded in Rory Sloane last week? Bad move. Levi Greenwood got the job and restricted Rory to a team-low 36. The other Greenwood — Hugh — didn’t help our causes either, scoring just 51.

WEST COAST 113 d BRISBANE LIONS 45

EAGLES STUDS: Luke Shuey was the star out west with 27 disposals, six clearances, five tackles and 121 SuperCoach points. Drew Petrie (108) is producing remarkable numbers considering he was finished a year ago.

EAGLES DUDS: Jackson Nelson might be a SuperCoach option one day but that day definitely has not arrived. He scored 27 yesterday and is averaging 45 for the season. Elliot Yeo (80) missed the party.

LIONS STUDS: Great game from Daniel Rich, scoring 124, and Dayne Beams proved a smart trade after all with 121. Alex Witherden (103) continues to impress.

LIONS DUDS: Call this the Tom Rockliff section. Even a personal milestone couldn’t lift the one-time scoring machine, who finished with 66 points. Amazingly, his season average is still 97 which shows how far he’s fallen.
