SuperCoach Rage Trades: Who’s on the chopping block, who to target after Round 11

With SuperCoach scores of 146 and 135 in the past two rounds, Collingwood skipper Scott Pendlebury is flying. But can he maintain his red-hot form? BYE TRADE TIPS

The bye rounds are here! We now face having our teams short of players over the next three weeks and we need to maximise the quality of the players we have on field.

We also now have three trades per week and this can really help set us up for the rest of the season.

Remember that all of the “boot” and “buy” suggestions for the next few weeks will really depend on your team structure and how well these guys fit your bye profile. Sometimes you may miss a player if they are going to have a bye soon and sometimes you may need to keep someone that you really don’t want to just to get over the next bye.

This week on the bye we have Essendon, Fremantle, Hawthorn, Port Adelaide, St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs.

BOOT HIM

Dayne Beams

This was Beams’ worst performance of the year and he simply hasn’t been anywhere near where we all expected him to be. He has been over 100 only twice this year and the last time was way back in Round 5. If you do want to trade him, do it now before his price drops further next week.

Toby Greene

Greene’s form has been far too erratic this season with just one score over 85 and this week he had his second-lowest of the year despite the Giants enjoying a big win against Gold Coast. Whilst he didn’t play much of the last quarter and had just 70 per cent time on ground he hasn’t been listed as an injury in the match report by the club. Nonetheless, he didn’t show us enough to keep him in our teams.

Shane Mumford

If giving away free kicks was the aim of scoring in SuperCoach then he would be a must-have. Another five frees against this week saw him post his lowest of the season, beating last week’s low point. He is not reliable enough for us to have in our sides and you are missing up to 100 points on the big two.

Joel Selwood

A clear role change for the Cats skipper this season and it isn’t a good one for his SuperCoach scoring. His recent 90s have been bearable for owners but a 69 this week is simply not tolerable. Move him on as soon as you can.

Alex Witherden

Witherden was touted as one of the breakout candidates for this season but his scoring couldn’t be further from the truth. He has failed to crack 100 this year and is averaging under 80, having gone over that score just once since Round 5. He is someone you could consider upgrading.

Chad Wingard

Yet another soft-tissue injury for Wingard. He is struggling to keep himself on the park and with the byes now upon us we can’t afford players missing. Add to that his return of just 43 this week which will see his price drop even more and it is an opportune time to move him on.

Jack Billings

We saw Billings record his lowest of the season this week. He has only hit 100 once in the last 7 weeks. Unfortunately we are starting to see the Billings of old who knows how to put in a low score just when we need him.

Aaron Naughton

After his big game a few weeks ago many coaches jumped on him. But he now has a score in the 30s and this week got to just 26. If you jumped on it is time to jump off. We can’t have scores like that in our side.

BUY HIM

Stephen Coniglio

While his price will rise this week, and his recent weeks have been underwhelming, anyone that scores 200-plus is always a must buy! Granted, it was against the Suns but his was an all-round complete game with 36 touches at 83 per cent efficiency, three goals and 15 score involvements all of which helped him to this amazing score. Still priced at close to $500,000 and with a friendly Round 14 bye.

Josh Kelly

If it weren’t for Coniglio’s amazing game Kelly would have been the guy most talked about here. He hasn’t scored under 130 since returning from injury and he should be on the shopping list of every SuperCoach in the competition. He is a proven scorer and we just needed him to show some durability.

Bachar Houli

We recommended him last week and this week he had another outstanding game, rewarding those that brought him in. He backed up his 142 with a 139 as he had a career-high 38 disposals, beat last week’s 37. He is well worth picking up while he is in this sort of form. Another Round 14 bye player.

Scott Pendlebury

We have had him on watch now a number of times and he has certainly responded. This week was another stunning performance and backed up his 146 the week prior nicely. If he fits your bye structure, then you should be able to select him with confidence.

Connor Blakely

Blakely was someone we were all keen to see this season given his low starting price. He has been building each week with his scoring and cracked the ton this week. Importantly for us though he did miss his break even, but only just. At this price, and available in defence he could be a nice little cheap upgrade for you after this week’s bye.

Michael Walters

Two weeks and two times he has had the matchwinning scoring shot. This certainly boosts his SuperCoach score, but even without this he has been consistently scoring well and you may consider him after his bye this week as a forward upgrade.

Rory Laird

If you aren’t on the Laird train and are planning to jump aboard this might be the time to do it. He just missed his break even this week, but it will drop with this score meaning this is the cheapest he may get for a few weeks. He has been scoring consistently of late and could be the answer some coaches need to plug holes down back.

WATCH FOR ANOTHER WEEK

These guys aren’t buys or boots just yet, but they are ones that we should just keep a close eye on.

Noah Balta

A bit harsh to list a rookie who has been scoring well for us but this week he dropped back to 47. Ivan Soldo was back to play on the ball and Balta had seven clangers from his 11 possessions. This won’t go unnoticed by the coach. If he has another score like this next game his break even will rise sharply.

David Mundy

It wasn’t long ago that we were singing his praises and telling you to get him into your teams. But he has now posted two in a row under 100 for the first time since the opening two rounds of the season. This is a huge concern. Don’t panic yet, but let’s see how he goes after the bye and hopefully he can get back to the 100-plus scoring we were seeing from him.

Isaac Heeney

While he made his breakeven this week (only just) the 116 from Round 9 now drops out of his price cycle and this will push his BE up, which means that he could be at a very attractive price in a couple of weeks. He could be one to pick up as a bargain if his form turns around.

ROOKIE WATCH

TIME TO TRADE

Shai Bolton — BE 89, scored 34. He is getting a game but he hasn’t done much since his 126 in Round 8. He will lose value and fast.

Tarryn Thomas — BE 93, scored 52. He had a great game in Round 7 but hasn’t done enough for us since then.

Ben King — BE 71, scored 40. If you took a chance on King even after his two very low scores then it is time to admit it was a failed experiment and move him out.

Chris Burgess — BE 34, scored 33. We have had him on this list for a few weeks now and he is still in 27 per cent of sides. He is not a viable option to play on your field.

Jack Lukosius — BE 43, scored 32. He is not someone that you can safely play on field and he isn’t making money. In just under 5 per cent of sides he needs to be traded.

Gryan Miers — BE 114, scored 50. His race is done for us and he is now losing a lot of that great cash he had already made. If you need him this week for your byes it should be the last one you hold him for.

Reilly O’Brien could lose his spot next week.
Reilly O’Brien could lose his spot next week.

ON NOTICE

Luke Davies-Uniacke — BE 76, scored 86. Thankfully his BE will drop after this performance but just beware that he can put in a low one. However, should be good for the byes.

Darcy Moore — BE 62, scored 68. This is about his scoring mark so he shouldn’t fluctuate too wildly in value from here. Keep him to use over the byes.

Nick Blakey — BE 44, scored 51. This score is just over his average so you can safely hold for another game but after that he should be on your trade out radar.

Reilly O’Brien — BE 60, scored 52. He didn’t get to his BE but only just missed it and he was up against Max Gawn. We have a tough decision to make now. His BE will rise based on this and he is going to start losing value. Do you keep him to cover for Max and Brodie in Round 13 or do you cash him in now and get the most value you can out of him? Beware Sam Jacobs kicked give goals in his comeback game in the SANFL.

Callum Wilkie — BE 60, scored 60. He is scoring well and you can hold him but remember he is on the bye this week so you may want to trade him anyway whilst he is at his peak.

Michael Gibbons — BE 60, scored 60. Another rookie right on his score. Two scores of 60 in a row and three of his last four. He is scoring fairly consistently apart from one of those so if you need him for the byes you should be able to keep him.

Sam Walsh — Walsh missed his BE yet again this week and he continues to lose some of that early value he made. You may choose to hold him one more week and trade him to a R12 premium after their bye.

ON THE BUBBLE

Brett Bewley — scores of 49 and 47. Quite consistent scoring from the much-awaited Bewley. He is one that we should look at bringing in but he has the bye in Round 12 so you can wait until Round 13 to trade him in.

START HIM

We have moved the mark here as you start to have less rookies on field in your teams. However, over the bye periods odds are that you will need to play every player that you have!

Zak Butters 112, Sydney Stack 107, Xavier Duursma 92, Isaac Cumming 90, Luke Davies-Uniake 86, Liam Baker 85, Connor Rozee 81, Jordan Clark 73, Mitch Lewis 72, Noah Answerth 71, Oskar Baker 69, Darcy Moore 68, Lachie Keefe 68, Tom Atkins 67, Sam Walsh 67, Will Setterfield 64, Liam Stocker 61, Callum Wilkie 60, Michael Gibbons 6072, Noah Answerth 71, Oskar Baker 69, Darcy Moore 68, Lachie Keefe 68, Tom Atkins 67

SIT HIM

Nick Larkey 58, Lachie Young 53 Tarryn Thomas 52, Reilly O’Brien 52, Nick Blakey 51, Gryan Miers 50, Jack Petruccelle 48, Brett Bewley 47, Noah Balta 47, Matthew Parker 45, Josh Begley 44, Ben King 40, Ryan Gardner 40, Darragh Joyce 38, Josh Corbett 38, Shai Bolton 34, Chris Burgess 33, Robbie Young 33, Jack Lukosius 32
