SuperCoach rage trades: Who’s on the chopping block and shopping list after Round 9

He isn’t cheap after scoring 141 against North Melbourne, but this is as affordable as Jake Lloyd will get — and you need to get him. Plus a message to coaches hanging on to Tom Liberatore.

Coaches were smashed at the selection table this week with some premium players missing out and some of the rookies we have been relying on also overlooked.

The situation became even worse for many when Darcy Moore and Josh P Kennedy were late outs. But that is just a week in the life of a Supercoach.

It’s a reminder we have to be flexible with our trade plans each week. With that in mind, let’s look at some rage trades we may want to make this week.

BOOT HIM

Angus Brayshaw

While his score (78) was his best in his past three, he only got there with some very late possessions. The main problem with trading him out is that he has lost so much value he would almost be a straight swap from some of our rookies at this point! His new role isn’t helping his team or our SuperCoach teams.

Tom Liberatore

If you gave Libba one more chance then he has certainly used that up by now. Another score under 80 this week should be more than enough for even the most stubborn coach to move him out of their side (he is still in 28 per cent of teams). He is heading back towards his starting price rapidly and you need to trade to get some of the value that you got from him.

Andrew McGrath

Like Libba, many selected McGrath in as a mid-price stepping stone. But with his score not going any higher than 80 in the past four weeks he finds himself back at his starting price and the 11.1 per cent of teams that have him may want to consider cashing in their chips before he drops any further.

Shaun Higgins

Normally we don’t mention someone to boot who had a good score the previous week, but this guy has form and long-time SuperCoach players know him as a “burn man”. His last couple have been good but this week he was tagged to a 65 which would have frustrated owners. If he hadn’t burnt us in the past we would say give him one more week, but do so at your own risk.

Callum Mills

Despite a 96 in Round 8, Mills has not been performing lately and this season has just two scores over 80! That in itself should be enough for owners to have jumped off him. He is well below his starting price with no signs of it going up. So look to move him out real soon.

Scott Lycett

In nearly 10% of teams he is underperforming despite his 104 in round 8. If you are playing him on field then you need to move him on, but if he is bench swing cover then you can possibly hold but even a 56 isn’t a very good bench score.

Rookies

There are a number of rookies that are looking like must boots this week based on their scores against their BE’s. The key ones would be Setterfield, Gibbons, Collins and Parker.

BUY HIM

Jake Lloyd

Even though he had 141 this week he missed his break even score by eight points. But this will see his break even drop now and he could be at the cheapest we will see him for a while. This makes him on of the best buys of the week, and if you can find a way it would be a good time to get him in.

Mitch Duncan

Duncan hasn’t been under 120 in his past three and 115 in his past four. He is putting together a brilliant run and one which has largely been ignored as his ownership sits at a meagre 1 per cent. With big name Cats like Dangerfield, Selwood and Menegola injured at times, he is picking up the pieces and capitalising on his opportunities.

Shannon Hurn

We highlighted Hurn last week and he took his scoring to another level against the Demons. He beat his 135 break even and isn’t cheap, but he is delivering. He takes most of the Eagles’ kick-ins and will be a must-have in your team by season’s end. The only question is whether we can afford to wait until after the dreaded Round 13 bye.

Tim Taranto

He has only had two poor scores for the year with now 5 over 110 in the bank. He was helped by Coniglio being out and it being a very one sided game but he is still a player that is scoring well that must be considered for your team.

Lachie Whitfield

After two weeks off he returned with a massive game and showed us just why we all held him through his injury. If you don’t have him in your side he is a must have as this guy is all class and knows where to find the footy and he is also a good user which boosts his Supercoach score.

Dayne Zorko

Zorko has put together three 110-plus plus scores in a row. He is on a really good run, and he is doing it with Neale scoring well too. After a quiet start to the season he has really gotten things going lately, with this week’s game highlighted by a game high 12 tackles. Don’t overlook him a midfield option as he’ll still be priced around $500,000 and is in just 2 per cent of teams.

Elliot Yeo

Yeo has had some sort of month, not dipping below 115 in that period. He is a tackling beast which is really boosting his score as he had 16 of them this week. He has a great role at the moment and in only 3 per cent of teams he would be a great unique selection. He’s still under his starting price but won’t be for much longer.

Elliot Yeo is in a hot run of form.

Rory Sloane

Sloane is continuing to put a great run of games together and despite the Crows’ narrow loss he was still the second-highest scorer in his game this week. He is finding the contested footy which really boosts his SuperCoach score, with 21 of 28 touches in that category this week. Many people stayed away after his struggles from last year, but he appears to be over them and a good selection this season.

David Mundy

Mundy continues to be on a golden run of form with now his last four games all being 110-plus returns for owners. He is also doing it in a period where Fyfe is also getting his points (although Fyfe was down a bit this week), which is a great sign because he doesn’t need to rely on Fyfe not being there to get his score. He is another unique player scoring well as he is in just 3.6 per cent of sides.

WATCH FOR ANOTHER WEEK

These guys aren’t ‘buys’ or ‘boots’ just yet, but they are ones that we should just keep a close eye on.

Scott Pendlebury

A few weeks ago we had him as buy. But in the past two weeks he has failed to reach 90, which is a big concern. Give him one more chance this week, but if he fails to get to 100 again then we must seriously look at his role and whether we should keep him.

Caleb Daniel

Many jumped on after his hot streak, but he has now posted a couple of scores in the 70s which is far from ideal. We need to see him jump back over 90 and fast!

Dustin Martin

Yes, he had a great 128 this week but don’t get all excited and bring him in. We know that chasing scores can be dangerous. We need to see this repeated before we trade him in. Look for another 110+ score at least first.

ROOKIE WATCH

Rookies who may have reached their peak.

Jack Petruccelle — BE 48, scored 52. He got there, but only just. He needs to be in your trade plans now.

Mathew Parker — BE 55, scored 30. Must trade out as soon as you can. He is losing cash fast.

Callum Wilkie — BE 66, scored 50. He has reached the top and is another that should be traded sooner rather than later.

Jordan Clark — BE 26, scored 33. Clark didn’t have a great game with just the seven touches. He may be rested against the Suns but nonetheless he won’t rise much, if at all, next week.

Xavier Duursma — BE 65 scored 56. We all thought last week it was about his time to go. Definitely time now.

Zac Butters — BE 74 scored 76. Many had already got rid of Butters but with 30 still in his price cycle he will need another big score this week to stay in your side.

Sam Collins — BE 62 scored 36. Must Trade. In over 16% of teams he must go.

Jack Lukosius — BE 43 scored 43. He hasn’t been doing enough to stay in the 5% of teams that have him. Trade.

Jack Scrimshaw — BE 62 scored 55. Many traded him when he was left out the other week but keeping him just keeps getting harder to do with a loss in value.

Michael Gibbons — BE 44 scored 28. It was a very tough day for all the Blues and this is just a reflection of that. He will drop in value and his BE will rise.

Sam Walsh — BE 101 scored 80. We knew that he would find it tough to get his points this week but he did a good job to get where he did.

ROOKIES ON THE BUBBLE

Rupert Wills — scores of 36 and 80. Tough one to gauge here. He came in as a late replacement for Jordan De Goey and it is tough to see his job security being great, although his two games have at least been consecutive.

Fletcher Roberts — scores of 53 and 35. Nothing to write home about but he is a defender which may help some coaches. As a Bulldogs player we are always cautious about job security.
