SuperCoach Rage Trades: Who’s on the chopping block after Round 19

SuperCoach finals are here which means it’s time to be ruthless with underperforming players. And a bargain Richmond forward could be just the man to replace them.

The Supercoach finals are set, but it isn’t a time to be romantic about who you keep in your side.

We need to be ruthless and use our trades to make sure we get the biggest score we can each week.

Here’s who’s on the chopping black — and the shopping list — this week.

BOOT HIM

JACK ZIEBELL

This was the last straw for owners that had shown some patience. The damning stat for him is that this week was his best score in the past three and it is still nowhere near enough to be occupying a spot on your field. There are better options available but now that his price has plummeted you will need to have some cash to upgrade him.

JACK BILLINGS

Normally if a guy hasn’t been too bad in the last few weeks, I would put him on watch after a bad score but with Billings we have some history. We know that when he goes bad, he can go bad fast (just like sour milk, as The Phantom would say). He got enough of the footy against Melbourne but burnt it way too much. You may want to give him one more chance, but I know a lot of coaches will be worried about this performance.

TRADE TIPS: SUPERCOACH MIDFIELD FACE-OFF

MATHS: HOW CARLTON CAN MAKE FINALS

ANGUS BRAYSHAW

Yet again he struggled, and the concern is that there are rookies that are averaging more than him in the past few weeks. There are just under 10 per cent of teams that still have him in the line-up, and he is a must trade. The problem is that he now has little to no value. Your best option may be to upgrade a rookie that has a higher value and try and loophole him off your bench each week.

Picking Angus Brayshaw in SuperCoach hasn’t worked out.

SHANE MUMFORD

If you are still running with this experiment, you must stop now! He gave away just one fewer free kick than he had possessions. There was no injury and with just six hit-outs and five touches I am not sure he retains his spot in this side. As with Brayshaw though you will need a lot of cash to upgrade him to one of the big guns.

TRENT COTCHIN

Cotchin did a hammy early in the game and all reports were that he will miss at least one week with it. This sounds to me like it could stretch beyond that. For those that have him, he is a must trade.

ALEX WITHERDEN

He was in just under 5 per cent of teams and a score of four would have really burnt them. He had a calf issue in the first quarter and didn’t come back. This would tend to indicate that he could miss more weeks post this game. His value isn’t high but if you can use him to get to a premium, then do it.

LUKE PARKER

Now that JPK is back in the side and playing well Parker’s role seems to have reduced a little. In the last four weeks he has had just one over 100 and this was his lowest score for the season. Can we risk him having another sub 100 score? Probably not.

TOM STEWART

Stewart was great in the first half of the season but in the last six weeks he has only had one over 100 which is a concern. This week saw his lowest of the season and second in the 70s in a row. It may cost you a final if he does it again.

LUKE RYAN

Ryan was off in the third quarter with ice on his hamstring and this is a real concern. If he doesn’t come up this week you will need to trade him out, particularly if you are in an elimination final this week.

BUY HIM

ADAM TRELOAR

With five games over 115 in the last six rounds, Treloar is a must-have in your midfield now. Taylor Adams was a late out which once again allowed Treloar to be the main man in the Collingwood midfield as he had the most contested touches and the most possessions for his team this week.

TOM LYNCH

This is a buy with a warning. We know that key forwards are always a huge risk in SuperCoach, but his price is very low and if you are struggling with rookies on field, he could be an option. His form over the last three weeks is also great and with games against Melbourne and Carlton in the next two weeks he could go big again. Just beware that his last two are against West Coast and Brisbane, but they are at the MCG.

DAYNE ZORKO

Zorko continued his good form since the bye with his fourth score over 115 in that time. His kick-to-handball ratio is outstanding for the season and this week he had 20 kicks and just five handballs, which is great for SuperCoach scoring. Teams are putting time into Lachie Neale and letting Zorko do as he pleases. Well worth a unique selection.

ELLIOT YEO

Yeo is in just 5 per cent of teams currently and has had a great run of late with the past three all over 110. After a couple of down weeks in Rounds 15 and 16 his price isn’t too high and if you have a bit of cash to use you could upgrade a midfield rookie to him and cash in on some great points.

CLAYTON OLIVER

Oliver was able to back up his great game with a solid 126. His form since the bye (and even just before it) has been fantastic and you should be looking at him as an upgrade option from one of your underperforming premiums.

JACK MACRAE

This score caps off an amazing run post bye for Macrae as he averages 135 over the last 7 weeks. He should be a target for every team to bring in and he is a captain option every week. Over that time he has a low score of 116. All the attention has been going to Dunkley since his massive score allowing Macrae to run free.

MICHAEL WALTERS

Walters has regained some form in the last two weeks now as he put in back to back 100s for the first time since the first two weeks back from the bye. His price is just on $500k and if you need to move out an underperformer he could be the guy you need.

WATCH FOR ANOTHER WEEK

These guys aren’t buys or boots just yet, but they are ones that we should just keep a close eye on.

JACK CRISP

He was someone we were hot on a couple of weeks ago after a good run of scoring but now a 66 and a 67 in the past two weeks has us asking questions. He had plenty of the footy with 26 touches but he didn’t use it well, going at just 57 per cent efficiency. Hopefully this scoring will turn around if the Pies can rekindle their form. They play the Suns next week so look for a big bounce back from him.

STEF MARTIN

This was his third-lowest score of the season and at this time of the year we can’t cop a 68 when we have other rucks going over 110 most weeks. While his form since the bye hasn’t been bad this type of score in a knockout final could see your season over.

SEB ROSS

Seb had an outstanding game this week (159) but the problem for us is that it was his first over 100 since Round 14 and he doesn’t get to play Melbourne every week. He plays Adelaide away this week which won’t be an easy game so if you do pick him up, just don’t expect a massive score like this.

JOSH KENNEDY

JJK had a great game this week with his 7 straight goals but we do need to be wary of the fact that his previous three games were 37, 7 and 45. We know that key forwards are often a risk to have in our sides and we really need to see some sustained form from them. He could win you a final, but just as easily he could lose you one.

ROOKIE WATCH

A bit of a change here as we really shouldn’t have any rookies on field any more. So now we will look at those rookies on the bubble, who you can use if you really need to on field, who is good bench cover and those that are an absolute last resort and can be traded if necessary.

ON THE BUBBLE

Tyson Stengle — scores of 69 and 55

Some good scores but with the Crows losing and in danger of slipping out of the eight, I suspect that his job security may not be very good. If he is named this week and you are desperate for cash, then you could pick him up.

Francis Watson — scores of 73 and 61

A pretty good start for Watson. With defence downgrades hard to come by if he gets named this week and you have the trades left to be able to downgrade an non-playing rookie, he could be a good option.

Doulton Langlands — scores of 66 and 71

Langlands has been great in his first two games and the new coach is hopefully liking what he is seeing. The added bonus for us is that he is a mid/fwd and this opens up some great flexibility. Look to bring him in if you have the trades and particularly if you need a mid

downgrade.

Hayden McLean — scores of 60 and 65

Another solid rookie on the bubble this week. My concern with him is that he plays for the Swan and Longmire hasn’t always been nice to Fantasy coaches. So if you need a forward downgrade you can take him on but don’t be surprised if he doesn’t play all the games on the run home.

PLAYABLE

Reilly O’Brien 110, Michael Gibbons 101, Noah Answerth 98, Bailey Smith 98, Ben King 94, Will Setterfield 91, Jordan Clark 87, Chris Burgess 87, Sydney Stack 86, Will Snelling 85, Sam Walsh 84, Harrison Petty 80.

BENCH COVER ONLY

Callum Wilkie 77, Zac Butters 76, Nick Hind 75, Shai Bolton 72, Doulton Langlands 71, Nick Larkey 71, Tarryn Thomas 69, Xavier Duursma 69, Rhylee West 69, Liam Baker 68, Dylan Clarke 66, Hayden McLean 65, Connor Rozee 63, Francis Watson 61, Lachlan Schultz 61, Luke Davies-Uniacke 60, Josh Deluca 59, Ian Hill 59, Nick Blakey 57, Gryan Miers 56, Tyson Stengle 55, Tom Atkins 54, Maboir Chol 54, Jack Petruccelle 53, Isaac Quaynor 52, Jack Lukosius 52, Jackson Hately 51
