WE were given a well-deserved rest thanks to the post-China bye, but now it’s time to get stuck in to the Perfect 9 action.
Simply pick the top SuperCoach scorer in all nine games of the round and pocket the cash jackpot, which stands at $270,000 at Round 11.
The jackpot jumps by $5000 each week until someone claims the booty.
SUPERCOACH: GUIDE TO SURVIVING THE BYES
The SuperCoach with the highest number of perfect picks — from the weekend’s nine matches — wins the $1000 weekly prize.
Like Port Adelaide and Gold Coast, we should be fresh and raring to go for a bumper Round 11.
For those new to the game, star ruckman Brodie Grundy is the closest thing to a Perfect 9 lock this season, topping the scorers list five times — that is once in every two games. A very handy strike rate in this caper.
SuperCoach powerhouses Nat Fyfe, Tom Mitchell and Jack Macrae are hanging at the rear with four game-high totals to their name, with last week ending a stunning three game streak for the blistering Bulldog.
Grundy and Fyfe were among the eight game-high scorers in Round 10, and come up against each other on Sunday, making it a tough choice for SuperCoaches.
However, it does pay to think outside the square as well. Last week saw unlikely picks Josh Caddy (146), Mitch Robinson (172) and Angus Brayshaw (130) all hit top scores in their respective matches.
DAN BATTEN selects his Perfect 9 for Round 11.
Sydney vs Carlton
Lance Franklin
Last 3 vs Carlton: 183, 82, 102
This is one of those games where you fear for opposition defenders. Franklin won many SuperCoach Classic players’ their Grand Final with a whopping 183 SuperCoach points and 10 goals last time these two sides met in Round 23 last year. Now he is every chance of making many Perfect 9 players one from one to start their weekend. Don’t read into Buddy’s 60 points in the wet against Brisbane last week.
Western Bulldogs vs Melbourne
Max Gawn
Last 3 vs WBD: DNP, 49, DNP
If Grundy’s herculean 152-point effort against the Bulldogs last Friday night was anything to go by, Gawn looks in for a big one. The ruck duo of Jordan Roughead and Tom Boyd should be no match for the bearded giant. Jack Macrae is another option in this one, looking to redeem himself after scoring (only!) 102 points last week.
Hawthorn vs Port Adelaide
Justin Westhoff
Last 3 vs HAW: 93, 83, 86
One of those contests that is very difficult to choose, with stopper Brad Ebert likely to be sent to Tom Mitchell. That is why we have gone with a POD option in Justin Westhoff. The Hoff has clocked up two game-high totals already in 2018 and might just produce another.
Gold Coast vs Geelong
Patrick Dangerfield
Last 3 vs GC: 110, 132, 90
While Gary Ablett is the fairytale selection, it is hard to go past Patrick Dangerfield. The superstar has returned to form, surpassing the 130 mark in two of his last three matches. Averages a formidable 120.8 points across 10 games against the Suns.
Essendon vs Richmond
Michael Hurley
Last 3 vs RICH: 86, 96, 81
It is certainly risky picking a player coming back from injury but it may be a risk worth taking. Spearhead Jack Riewoldt remains in doubt with concussion and the Tigers are short on tall forwards as it is. One who always gets plenty of footy in the back half, and could benefit from some extra intercept marks.
West Coast vs St Kilda
Andrew Gaff
Last 3 vs STK: 85, 82, 78
Andrew Gaff will have a point to prove on Saturday night. A starring performance against the Saints could see some extra dollars offered to him at the end of the year by them. Gaff tallied a game-high 135 points last week and has been one of the most consistent SuperCoach performers this season.
North Melbourne vs Brisbane
Stefan Martin
Last 3 vs NM: 80, 112, 98
Stefan Martin comes up against Goldstein following an impressive 58 hit-outs, 15 disposals and 134 SuperCoach points last week. Goldy is a shadow of his former self this season and is backing up a hard slog in trying conditions at Optus Stadium. Expect Martin to dominate around the ground and be among the best scorers. Don’t go near Dayne Zorko, with Ben Jacobs priced around $1.01 to follow him all day.
Collingwood vs Fremantle
Brodie Grundy
Last 3 vs FREM: 98, 106, DNP
With Aaron Sandilands (concussion) ruled out of this clash, Grundy takes the cake over Fyfe for mine. Injury to Sean Darcy means Michael Apeness and mature-age Scott Jones have been flagged as possible replacements, along with SuperCoach 2017 favourite Luke Strnadica. The prospect of Grundy up against any of these inexperienced ruckman is too good to refuse.
Adelaide vs GWS
Rory Laird
Last 3 vs GWS: 147, DNP, 64
Like the Hawks vs Power match, this looms as an intriguing contest where it is tough to pick a winner. Rory Laird never has trouble finding the footy and led all comers when they met in Round 1 last year, finishing with 40 disposals and 147 SuperCoach points.
