Under the unique SuperCoach scoring system points are multiplied when the game is up for grabs because those actions are the most crucial in deciding the result. So with 12 seconds to go and the Demons trailing by four points, a goal by the most popular player in the fantasy game would have been a SuperCoach goldmine.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be. We saw what might have been when Swan Luke Parker kicked a remarkable goal over his head in the dying minutes against the Eagles — even though he never took possession of the ball.

Welcome to Number Crunch, a new weekly column that breaks down the key SuperCoach numbers from the weekend thanks to Champion Data, which provides the stats that power SuperCoach.

Max Gawn: 139

Gawn was the top-scoring ruckman for the round, but his score could have been a lot higher had he scored a matchwinning goal. He earned himself nine points for his contested mark and behind as the final act of the game, however, had he kicked the goal instead, that would have seen an additional 10 points added to his final score.

Luke Parker: 149

With Sydney leading by just five points at the final change, Parker played a key role in final term to get the Swans home. He hit the target with seven of eight disposals and also scored a crucial goal at the 24-minute mark. At the time of his goal, the weighting of the match was at its highest, earning 14 points for his bicycle kick and goal. He finished with 149 points for the match, behind only Lance Franklin’s 175.

Nick Holman: 96

Holman had 13 disposals in the wet against North Melbourne, but more importantly, he finished with a round-high 14 tackles from 16 tackle attempts. Close to 70 of his points were earned directly from tackles alone, while his most fruitful act of the match was a contested mark off the opposition in the third term which was worth 7.3 points.

Dom Barry: 44

Barry had 22 disposals and a disposal efficiency of 68 per cent, losing 10 points as a result of three clanger kicks as well as two points for a free kick against. He had just 14 points at halftime when the game was there to be won, winning 13 disposals in the second half. Essentially, the longer the game went on, the less his statistics were worth from a weighting point of view as Port Adelaide extended the margin.

Michael Hibberd: 74

Hibberd only had 13 disposals, one intercept possession and 33 points to his name at three-quarter time — ranked 39th on the ground. To compound matters, he also lost 11 points after giving away two free kicks. In the final term, with the game going down to the wire, he scored 43 points — the second-most of any player. He hit the target with six of seven disposals and also recorded two intercept possessions, earning five points for a hardball-get won off the opposition.
