SuperCoach market watch: Top scores, rookie trade advice
The Round 4 SuperCoach winner topped the rankings despite benching Dayne Beams when he was a late withdrawal. Here’s the team which won this week’s prize, plus rookie and trade advice from Champion Data.

Some cheap SuperCoach players are hitting the wall already.
They can still be a source of vital cash if we trade them to emerging rookies in coming weeks, but this is where we appear to run into a major issue — where are the trade targets going to come from?

ROUND 4: EVERY SUPERCOACH HERO AND VILLAIN
There are several players “on the bubble” this week — ready to rise in price after they play their third game for the season this weekend.
And some promising cheapies who have played one game, ready to trade in before Round 6 if they can maintain their form, and keep their spot.
BUBBLE BOYS
Jay Lockhart (Melb) $102,400 DEF/MID
Games: 2. Scores: 32, 57. Break even: -29
Was named for his third game at the weekend but was a late out with a back problem. We’re not sure how bad it is but after the Demons’ first win of the season we’re not sure he’ll be rushed back into the side.
Zac Clarke (Ess) $142,600 RUCK
Games: 2. Scores: 49, 64. Break even: -30
Ruck rookies aren’t incredibly useful right now unless you want to trade out a guy who isn’t playing for someone who will go up in price and provide some bench cover. Clarke outscored Tom Bellchambers at the weekend and seems to have a role in the side — at least until Joe Daniher returns.
Reilly O’Brien (Adel) $136,800 RUCK
Games: 2. Scores: 85, 84. Break even: -89
Set to make more money than Clarke playing as the Crows’ No. 1 ruckman. But Don Pyke says Sam Jacobs (knee) could return next week, so stay clear.
Sydney Stack (Rich) $102,400 MID
Games: 2, Scores: 108, 40. Break even: -88
Couldn’t repeat his game one heroics but still impressed with his fearless attack on the footy and should hold his spot. Dirt cheap, but even the spluttering midfield rookies still have a little more money to make. Could work out but not a must-have.

Josh Rotham (WC) $123,900 DEF
Games: 2. Scores: 56, 98. Break even: -82
Can’t question his scoring but job security has to be an issue considering he was dropped after his first game and only came in as a late inclusion in Round 4. And most of our defensive rookies still have plenty of money to make.
Marty Hore (Melb) $117,300 DEF
Games: 2. Scores: 58, 86. Break even: -75
See above. Hore was a late in for the Dees against Sydney and made it tough for Simon Goodwin to drop him, but long-term job security is still a worry. Projected to gain more than $60,000 in value this week which is great news if you have him but don’t use a trade to get him unless you have a defender who isn’t getting a game.
ROOKIE PIPELINE
Jack Ross (Rich) $117,300 MID
Games played: 1. Score: 87
The standout of the one-gamers, Ross looked right at home in the Tigers’ midfield gathering 25 disposals at a super impressive 88 per cent efficiency. Watch him this week but could be a perfect swap after making a modest profit from Michael Gibbons or Tom Atkins.
Liam Baker (Rich) $162,100 FWD
Games: 1. Score: 91
Didn’t do much wrong on Saturday but bear in mind he played three matches last year for a high score of 45. And some Tigers will be squeezed out when Dusty and Co return.
Shai Bolton (Rich) $146,600 FWD
Games: 1. Score: 75
A tough call for selectors but has a rare ability to make things happen and plenty of SuperCoach players haven’t forgotten his breakout game in 2017 when he was the leading scorer on the field against Sydney at halftime. We need forwards — keep a close eye on him.
Ben Cavarra (WB) $117,300 FWD
Sadly we won’t see one of the most popular pre-season picks (still in 4 per cent of teams) for a while — the mature-aged recruit suffered broken ribs in his return from a quad injury and is listed as 3-5 weeks away.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: PATRICK CRIPPS
Cripps’ stellar start to the season continued after he racked up a season and round-high 169 SuperCoach points in the narrow loss to the Suns. His stats line made for great reading — having 30 disposals, 19 contested possessions, 12 tackles, eight clearances and two goals from 92 per cent game time. He was strong in the air — grabbing a game-high five contested marks.
CHAMPION DATA MARKET WATCH
Brodie Grundy
Grundy monstered Tim English last round on his way to a season-high 160 SuperCoach points. He won the ruck battle handsomely, winning the direct hitout count 46-6 and hitouts-to-advantage 13-0. Around the ground, he had 23 disposals, 18 contested possessions, six clearances and one shot at goal from 93% game time.
Max Gawn
Gawn dominated against Callum Sinclair last round, winning the hitout count 50-7 and hitouts-to-advantage 15-2 when the two were opposed in ruck contests. Gawn also had 19 disposals, 10 contested possessions and six clearances from 91% game time. He finished with a team-high 113 points — slightly up on his season average.
Jack Billings
Billings starred in St Kilda’s win over the Hawks — racking up a season-high 126 SuperCoach points. He was one of two players on the ground to exceed 30 disposals — finishing with 34 disposals, 23 uncontested possessions, five tackles, four clearances and three inside-50s from 91 per cent game time.
YOUNG GUN: JACK SCRIMSHAW
Scrimshaw’s price boomed after scoring 98 SuperCoach points in the narrow loss to St Kilda — increasing by $55,900. He hit the target with 19 of 23 disposals and also had 11 contested possessions and one inside-50 from 79 per cent game time. His kicking in the defensive half of the ground was excellent — posting a kicking efficiency of 80 per cent.
