WHO starred and who flopped in Round 6? We review every game to find the SuperCoach performers and failures.
NORTH MELBOURNE 61 def WESTERN BULLDOGS 45
North studs:The top score came from an unlikely source for the Kangaroos, with defender Scott Thompson rewarded for his outstanding performance in defence with 125 SuperCoach points. Daniel Wells (122) continued his excellent form with 27 disposals and six tackles, while Andrew Swallow (112) returned to good SuperCoach form after 23 disposals and a massive 14 tackles. Ben Cunnington (107) and Jarrad Waite (105) also notched triple figures.
North duds: It starts and ends with Todd Goldstein. A dismal 49 points from the big man is something we’re not used to and we don’t want to see it again. Nick Dal Santo (52) had just the 14 disposals and Shaun Higgins (72) hasn’t reached the heights of last year. Jack Ziebell (78) didn’t light it up and neither did Boomer Harvey (79).
Dogs studs: Lachie Hunter did as he pleased all night, amassing 44 disposals at 80 per cent efficiency for 154 points — the game’s top scorer. Matthew Boyd picked up the slack at halfback with 125 point from 33 touches and Jack Macrae (114) did his job in the middle. Luke Dahlhaus (113) delivered again and there’s no complaints with Koby Stevens’ 91.
Dogs duds: Shane Biggs was a popular replacement for Jason Johannisen but for the second week running has disappointed, this time with 69 points. Marcus Adams (63) has been an outstanding rookie pick but didn’t reach great heights on Friday night and Jake Stringer (59) had a night to forget.
MELBOURNE 96 def by ST KILDA 135
Demons studs:Can’t go past Jesse Hogan. 139 points courtesy of seven goals from 16 disposals and eight marks. He played a lone hand up forward. Jack Viney continued his excellent form with another 120 points, while skipper Nathan Jones (115) had 31 disposals. Max Gawn (96) was serviceable but we expect more from him.
Demons duds: Tom McDonald (58) didn’t see much of it despite the Saints dominating after quarter time and cash cow option Josh Wagner only managed 48 points in a tough day for the Demons. Jayden Hunt (20) had just 10 disposals and there was a lot of hype on Christian Petracca’s debut but he scored just 63 points.
Saints studs: Nick Riewoldt is a powerhouse and was arguably best afield for the Saints with 24 disposals, 14 marks, three goals and 137 points. Blake Acres had his best game with 124 points after 28 disposals and two goals, while Jack Steven (117) did his job in the midfield. Tom Hickey (112) was impressive in the ruck against Gawn, while Jack Sinclair (109), Jack Billings (103) and Tim Membrey (100) hit the ton.
Saints duds: Leigh Montagna (70) had 22 disposals but wasn’t at his damaging best and we expect more from David Armitage (81). Jade Gresham (56) was OK in his senior return.
ADELAIDE 97 def FREMANTLE 64
Crows Studs: Welcome back Sam Jacobs. The big ruckman took full advantage of the absence of Aaron Sandilands, amassing 21 disposals, 30 hit-outs and 120 points. Rory Sloane (106) had the ball on a string, picking up 31 disposals and defender Luke Brown (100) was the surprise Crow to score a ton. Rory Laird hurt his ankle but still managed 96 points and Kyle Hartigan (95), Tom Lynch (94) and Eddie Betts (93) were busy.
Crows Duds: Brodie Smith (82) finished strongly but we expect more from him and skipper Taylor Walker (41) didn’t trouble the scorers and. Popular rookie pick Mitch McGovern (44) was injured early and Paul Seedsman (60) had 19 disposals but also spent time off the ground with a sore knee. Matt Crouch (67) didn’t translate his 27 disposals into SuperCoach points.
Dockers Studs: Michael Barlow showed he can fill Nat Fyfe’s shoes with ease, racking up a match-high 134 points from 33 disposals. Michael Walters kicked three goals to finish with 116 points. Lachie Neale (110) collected 40 touches and Stephen Hill (108) was the only other Dockers to reach triple figures.
Dockers Duds: Darcy Tucker was a popular trade option this week but didn’t perform, managing just 34 points. However, he should still be a viable cash cow option next week. Tom Sheridan continued his disappoint SuperCoach form, scoring 43, and is now a must-trade.

GWS GIANTS 158 def HAWTHORN 83
Giants studs:Take a seat ... we could be here a while. Heath Shaw (143) put on a masterclass with 32 disposals to his name. Lachie Whitfield (135) went large with 28 disposals and two goals to pip Callan Ward (132). Steve Johnson wound back the clock with five goals, while Toby Greene and Dylan Shiel proved dangerous with ball in hand.
Giants duds: Nothing to see here ... move along, please.
Hawks studs: Jack Gunston (106) kicked five goals and was the only Hawk to post a triple figure score.
Hawks duds: Jordan Lewis (57) Luke Hodge (61) and Sam Mitchell (70) failed to fire at Spotless Stadium as the Giants ran them ragged. Mitchell got plenty of the ball but his use was well down mostly under pressure from Stephen Coniglio.
GEELONG 168 def GOLD COAST 48
Cats studs: Tom Hawkins (135) top scored with 24 disposals, 11 marks and four goals. Joel Selwood and Patrick Dangerfield dominated the stoppages, while Daniel Menzel (120) and Jimmy Bartel (118) also feasted on the Suns.
Cats duds: Lincoln McCarthy (43) was in the wars early but managed to play out the game.
Suns studs: Not applicable. Dion Prestia and Gary Ablett topscored for the hapless Suns with 96 points.
Suns duds: Trent McKenzie (12) rolled his ankle in the first half and did not return after the main break. Touk Miller (30) and Peter Wright (34) struggled to have any impact as did rookie Ryan Davis.
PORT ADELAIDE 94 def RICHMOND 59
Power Studs: If the scores are to be believed, it was a terrific team performance from Port Adelaide. Jared Polec (103), Travis Boak (103) and Jasper Pittard (100) were the only Power players to reach triple figures but even Sam Gray, who was ranked as Port’s 11th best player, scored 80.
Power Duds: Not much to see here. Second-game big man Dougal Howard was the lowest scorer with 46 but even he managed to beat five Tigers.
Tigers Studs: Shaun Grigg was in everything for Richmond and scored a match-high 135 from 32 touches and two goals. Dustin Martin threatened to drag the Tigers over the line at times and finished with 127. Bachar Houli collected 34 disposals and 107 points. Those who stuck by Corey Ellis would be happy with his 95.
Tigers Duds: Ivan Maric was ineffective against a part-time Power ruck division and scored just 24 points. Trent Cotchin played his worst game of the season and managed 66 points. Jason Castagna was a late call-up and scored 37 in his AFL debut while Kane Lambert was injured early in the first time and went to hospital with 14 points to his name.
BRISBANE LIONS 94 def by SYDNEY 97
Lions studs: Mitch Robinson led the way in more ways than one for the Lions with the tough midfielder throwing his body in everywhere. He finished with 28 disposals, seven tackles and 133 SuperCoach points. Pearce Hanley (128) provided plenty of run and grunt with 28 disposals and 12 tackles, while Tom Rockliff (117) was at his ball-winning best. Dayne Zorko (110) was impressive again and Daniel Rich (103) kicked two vital goals.
Lions duds: This might be harsh but Stefan Martin (81) needs to lift, we expect more from a player considered a premium ruckman. Lewis Taylor (41) was quiet and Liam Dawson (14) had just three disposals.
Swans studs: Can’t go past Luke Parker. He was enormous in the midfield after a slow start and kicked the sealing goal, finishing as the game’s top scorer with 151 points. Dan Hannebery (136) had the ball on a string and Lance Frankin’s five goals saw him notch a ton. Tom Mitchell (103), Kurt Tippett (101), Josh Kennedy (99) and Dane Rampe (97) were good.
Swans duds: Callum Sinclair (33) barely had a sniff and then suffered a knee injury in the dying stages. George Hewett (59) started with a bang, three goals in the opening term, but was quiet after that, as was Callum Mills (70) after a good first half. Tom Papley (64) was serviceable and Aliir Aliir scored 36 on debut but didn't look out of place.
CARLTON 72 def ESSENDON 57
Blues studs: By far this was Dale Thomas’ (141) best game for Carlton, his 31 disposals the most he has compiled in navy Blue. Bryce Gibbs (130) was damaging in the second quarter and finished with a game-high 32 disposals and 10 clearance. Marc Murphy (103) was instrumental in keeping the Bombers at bay with a captain’s goal and nine disposals in the final quarter.
Blues duds: Key forward Liam Jones (48) and Levi Casboult (45) both misfired in front of goal, missing gettable shots at goal that would have made things more comfortable for Brendon Bolton’s team. Jacob Weitering’s (23) afternoon came to an end in the second quarter after he partially dislocated his shoulder and suffered a concussion. A 50-50 proposition whether he play against the Magpies on Saturday.
Bombers studs: Courteney Dempsey (132) had a day out with 25 disposals at 84 per cent efficicency, four clearances and seven marks. Adam Cooney (109) produced his most productive game with Essendon and time in the VFL has done Ryan Crowley (94) the world of good.
Bombers duds: Sam Grimley’s (24) air swing in the goalsquare in the second quarter summed up his day. Joe Daniher (45) grabbed six marks but his radar was off with 1.3.
WEST COAST 124 def COLLINGWOOD 62
Eagles Studs: Nic Naitanui dominated Brodie Grundy and Mason Cox on his way to a match-high 145 points. Mark Lecras had a field day in front of goals and finished with 119 while Scott Lycett (115), Luke Shuey (114) and Jack Redden (106) also reached triple figures.
Eagles Duds: Eagles prime-movers Chris Masten (35) and and Sharrod Wellingham (39) were very quiet despite the big win. Eric Mackenzie could be coming to the end of his SuperCoach relevance after scoring just 44 while Matt Priddis would have disappointed his owners after scoring 75.
Magpies Studs: Jack Crisp was terrific for Collingwood and top scored with 124 in the loss. Adam Treloar continues to produce despite the Magpies’ struggles, finishing with 120 while skipper Scott Pendlebury managed an even 100. Josh Smith looms as a must-have cash cow this week after scoring 96.
Magpies Duds: Tim Broomhead came in for his first game of the season but could only score 28. Levi Greenwood toiled hard but was ineffective, scoring 54. Those who picked up Steele Sidebottom after his masterful 166 last week will be shattered after the Magpie scored just 78.
