SuperCoach AFL 2025 rookie bible: Top mid-season draft prospects, cheapies to watch for second half of season

The mid-season draft has given SuperCoaches 18 new cheapies to consider — including one our rookie expert Dan Batten expects to become one of the cash cows of the year.

SuperCoaches had been praying for a rookie miracle through the byes, and they might have just got it with the first pick of the AFL mid-season rookie draft.

Richmond VFL rebounder Tom McCarthy joined West Coast with the No.1 pick and he presents as a ready-made option for the Eagles — and our SuperCoach sides.

The 24-year-old has taken kick-ins and attended centre bounces for the Tigers, averaging 103 SuperCoach points to go with 23 disposals, five intercepts and four marks in a breakout VFL campaign.

West Coast has form introducing its mid-season draftees immediately, handing 2025 SuperCoach sensation Ryan Maric a debut a week after he was taken with the No.1 pick in 2023.

McCarthy will be priced at a $99,100 in SuperCoach and could have handy DEF-MID eligibility given he played stints through the midfield at the Tigers.

West Australian interceptor Michael Sellwood was taken by the Bulldogs and will be ready to impact.

Sellwood, 21, has flourished in the WAFL this season, tallying 126 SuperCoach points, 24 disposals, 10 intercepts and four intercept marks per game.

He shapes as another promising SuperCoach rookie option.
