SuperCoach AFL 2024: Biggest winners and losers from round 2

The first Best 18 scoring round of the year brought some extreme highs and stunning lows. Who fired and who flopped in round 2?

Only the best 18 scores counted towards each team’s total this round, and with injuries and form striking across the competition, it was a welcome rule even with only two teams (Brisbane and Carlton) on the bye.

At the other end of the spectrum some fantasy stars had absolutely massive games. Hopefully you had some of them in your team.

Here are our big SuperCoach winners and losers from round 2.

SuperCoach is back for 2024

WINNERS

LUKE JACKSON – 178 POINTS

Filling in as No.1 ruckman with Sean Darcy out injured, Jackson was absolutely massive under the roof at Marvel Stadium, finishing with 24 disposals (hitting the target with 23 of them), five tackles, 15 contested possessions and 21 hitouts against the Kangaroos.

What will the Dockers do when Darcy is fit?

ZAK BUTTERS – 175 POINTS

An absolute masterclass from the Port Adelaide star, who now has 333 points in his past two games against Richmond. Next time these teams meet, make him captain!

TOM PAPLEY – 155 POINTS

We’re just giving it to Papley over teammate Errol Gulden (149 points) for his four goals from 24 disposals against the Bombers. A huge result for his 2344 owners (1.4 per cent).

CHRISTIAN PETRACCA – 146 POINTS

Petracca reminded coaches how dominant he can be with a centre square masterclass against the Demons. The Hawks had no answer to his 29 disposals including five centre clearances. He even got points for sprinting all the way to full-back late in the game to spoil what looked like a certain Hawthorn goal.

JAMES SICILY – 123 POINTS

One of the biggest roller-coasters in SuperCoach, Sicily punished the 6000 coaches who traded him out after his 43-point game in round 1. The Hawks captain had 15 disposals and eight marks at quarter-time and slowed down a little after that to finish with 27 and 13.

NASIAH WANGANEEN-MILERA – 120 POINTS

The silky St Kilda defender is heading towards star status with a bullet. Two 100-plus scores to start the year and won’t be in the mid-price category for much longer.

GEORGE WARDLAW – 102 POINTS

The Phantom earmarked the young Kangaroos bull as his breakout star of 2024 and he lived up to the billing with 23 disposals (10 contested), four tackles and a goal.

ZAC FISHER – 102 POINTS

Saturday’s game was a tough watch for the almost 25,000 coaches who traded out Fisher after his disappointing score in round 1. The former Blue responded with 25 disposals (18 kicks) at 80 per cent efficiency to reward those who kept the faith.

SAM DARCY – 109 POINTS

First game of the year for the father-son gun and you suspect he won’t be out of the team for a while. Kicked two goals from 15 disposals, six marks and four tackles and will be a hugely popular trade target at just $123,900.

LOSERS

NICK DAICOS – 54 POINTS

Daicos appeared on his way to another big score after winning two early clearances but things went pear-shaped for him and the Magpies after that.

He finished with 22 disposals, but used the ball at just 68 per cent efficiency and gave away five turnovers on the way to the third-lowest score of his career.

If you had to cop that score you weren’t alone – he’s in 79 per cent of SuperCoach teams and 100 per cent of his owners had him on field.

HAYDEN YOUNG – 62 POINTS

Most of the 66,000 coaches who included Young in their team to start the year made the call based on the final four rounds of last season, when he scored over 100 in each game while playing in the midfield. The former backman’s role change has continued in the opening two rounds, but the scores haven’t.

He scored an underwhelming 70 in round 1 and couldn’t even get that this week, with his 21 disposals including four turnovers. He’ll be on the chopping block for many this week.

RILEY BONNER – 49 POINTS

One of the bargains of round 1, when he scored 102 points against Geelong, Bonner crashed back to earth with a zero-point opening quarter against Collingwood. After a brief revival he was cruelled by a couple of horror clangers in a night he would rather forget. Will still make money, though.

NAT FYFE – 69 POINTS

A big 50m goal on the stroke of three-quarter time must have taken it out of the Dockers veteran, who was subbed out during the break. The Dockers say the dual Brownlow medallist was “managed” so hopefully we’ll see him back fit and firing next week.

NICK COFFIELD – 2 POINTS

Injury cursed Bulldogs recruit hurt his shoulder in a marking contest just minutes into the clash against Gold Coast in Ballarat and was subbed out in a huge blow to more than 98,000 SuperCoaches.

TOM BERRY – 24 POINTS

Not the result the 23,000 coaches who traded in Berry this week were hoping for. Just eight disposals and a goal for the Suns small forward. He will still make money this week but the cash generation could dry up fast. The Suns being on the bye in round 3 doesn’t help.

MARTY HORE – 12 POINTS

Hore shaped as a very timely cheapie option in defence, until the Demons named the mature-age recruit as the sub. He didn’t get a lot of action after coming on, but injuries to Steven May and Jake Lever might give him more time in the seniors.

HARRY CUNNINGHAM – 0 POINTS

The Sydney winger hadn’t troubled the stats people before he was knocked into next week by Bombers big man Peter Wright.
