IS TOBY Nankervis the buy of the year? A couple of Adelaide rookies might have something to say about that.
After a horror Round 4, SuperCoach players are a lot happier this week with popular picks delivering the goods. But it wasn’t all good news.
Who starred and who flopped for your team? Here are our heroes and villains from every game (so far).
PORT ADELAIDE 137 d CARLTON 47
POWER STUDS: Robbie Gray was largely overlooked as a midfield option this year, we may need to reconsider that after his 139 against the Blues, which could have been a lot more if he had kicked straight (5.4). Ollie Wines (122) continued his brilliant early-season form and Brett Ebert (122) also cashed in.
POWER DUDS: Ken Hinkley promised Sam Powell-Pepper would bounce back after a couple of quiet weeks but that didn’t happen, returning a team-low 55. Don’t panic, he did find the ball 17 times and had a team-high eight clearances — unfortunately, everyone in black and teal had huge numbers which diluted scores across the board.
BLUES STUDS: Patrick Cripps battled hard all night for 109, the only Carlton player to reach triple figures. Bryce Gibbs, Sam Docherty and Kade Simpson scored in the 90s and Tom Williamson delivered 81 in his bubble game.
BLUES DUDS: Marc Murphy provided a tough lesson for anyone who traded him in chasing points, crashing to earth with a 69 and a meniscus injury that could sideline him for several weeks. Bench players Jarrod Pickett and Harrison Macreadie were at the bottom of the scoresheet again.
WESTERN BULLDOGS 122 d BRISBANE LIONS 90
DOGS STUDS: Jack Macrae (121) and Luke Dahlhaus (120) delivered another one-two punch for our forward lines and they were joined by Marcus Adams (121) — remember him? Jason Johannisen can be pleased with his 98.
DOGS DUDS: Lachie Hunter had a 45-point stinker and Tom Boyd (60) just hasn’t worked out as a ruck/forward pick. Marcus Bontempelli escaped the “dud” label with a big last quarter lifting him to a semirespectable 88.
LIONS STUDS: You already know who we’re going to mention here, it’s just the order that changes each week. This time Dayne Zorko (121) was the top-ranked of the Lions’ big three, ahead of Stef Martin (107) and Tom Rockliff (104). Mitch Robinson was also great and Dayne Beams cracked the ton.
LIONS DUDS: Not a great result if you traded in Jarrod Berry on the bubble last week. He is set to drop in price after a 14. Other kids Cedric Cox and Liam Dawson also battled and Josh Schache is averaging 38 for the season.
ADELAIDE 153 d GOLD COAST 86
CROWS STUDS: Rory Sloane started the season slowly then exploded, averaging 144 over the past four rounds — including a 139 against the Suns. Matt Crouch converted his 35 touches into 124 SuperCoach points, Rory Laird had 121 and rookies Curtly Hampton (103) and Andy Otten (101) joined the party in a great result for SuperCoach owners everywhere.
CROWS DUDS: Nearly 2000 people have Daniel Talia in their SuperCoach team for some reason and they will have to trade him out after a hamstring injury in the opening minutes of the game. Sam Jacobs could only manage 61.
SUNS STUDS: Michael Barlow had a game-high 36 touches for 112 points and Tom Lynch and Adam Saad joined him in three figures. Jarrod Witts (91) gets a tick.
SUNS DUDS: Brandon Matera, oh dear. It’s a long way down from 159 last week to 46 this week, especially if you’re one of the 15,000 players who just traded him in. Kade Kolodjashnij (43) flopped again while David Swallow was marginally better with a 55.
GWS GIANTS 105 d SYDNEY 63
GIANTS STUDS: Why is Shane Mumford in just 4 per cent of teams? He has had some injury issues in the past but he’s the No. 1 SuperCoach ruckman this year, averaging 113 after a 126 against the Swans. Jeremy Cameron top-scored with 139, Toby Greene scored 118 and Callan Ward (100) returned to form.
GIANTS DUDS: Not much for SuperCoach players to get upset about with Adam Kennedy (47) and Aidan Corr (48) not exactly staples in our sides. Dylan Shiel’s 75 was disappointing.
SWANS STUDS: Zak Jones has been a mid-price winner in defence, posting 115 — his biggest score of the year. Dan Hannebery is definitely back after a 112 — and is still pretty cheap if you’re looking for an A-grade midfielder. Callum Mills’ 94 was a season-high.
SWANS DUDS: Will Hayward and Jordan Foote survived the axe at selection but scored just 21 and 33 respectively. Kieren Jack (35) is having a dog of a year and Lance Franklin tried his guts out but just couldn’t flick the switch, scoring 70.
FREMANTLE 67 d NORTH MELBOURNE 62
KANGAROOS STUDS: Jamie Macmillon, Ben Cunnington, Trent Dumont and Marley Williams all cracked the ton and late inclusion Nathan Hrovat (96) wasn’t far behind. Some good signs for rookie Jy Simpkin (73).
KANGAROOS DUDS: Lindsay Thomas spent most of the night in negative points and edged his way up to 12 by the final siren. Ed Vickers-Willis started brightly on debut but faded to finish with 51 — he’ll need a good score next week to be a good downgrade target the week after.
DOCKERS STUDS: Nat Fyfe continued his recent hot run against North Melbourne with a game-high 126 — he has now scored 163, 131, 134, 127 and 126 in his past five games against the Roos at Subiaco. Lachie Neale is quietly repeating his breakout 2016 and Aaron Sandilands came home like a train to register 101.
DOCKERS DUDS: Griffin Logue was on the bubble with a break-even of 33 and he just made it — expect a few hundred bucks in the kitty after a 44.
GEELONG 126 d ST KILDA 88
CATS STUDS: Joel Selwood was massive, picking up 43 disposals and 154 SuperCoach points. Patrick Dangerfield had 61 at three-quarter time then exploded in a two-goal final quarter to finish with 120. Those thinking about trading out Zach Tuohy should reconsider after a season-high 116.
CATS DUDS: Tom Hawkins (41) couldn’t get near it for most of the day and the Steve Motlop rollercoaster was on a steep downhill section. Brandan Parfitt’s 51 wasn’t great if you had him on the field but it’s enough to keep his value heading in the right direction.
SAINTS STUDS: Seb Ross (123) and Dylan Roberton (116) flew the flag but there was a bit of a gap after that. Leigh Montagna (94) and Jack Steele (80) were pretty good for us.
SAINTS DUDS: Ben Long is on the bubble this week but after scores of 28 and 22 in his first two games, we’ll pass. Nathan Brown (27) and Jake Carlisle (42) weren’t recruited for their SuperCoach scoring but Saints fans would be hoping for more especially from the former Bomber.
HAWTHORN 125 d WEST COAST 75
HAWKS STUDS: Possessions translated into points this week for Tom Mitchell, who had the footy 37 times and scored 127 in SuperCoach. Ben McEvoy (117), Liam Shiels (109) and Shaun Burgoyne (103) made their combined 10,000 owners very happy.
HAWKS DUDS: Three goals in a big win would have given hope to Jarryd Roughead owners but it was only enough for a 67. Josh Gibson is a long way off the premium defender of years gone by, scoring 64 for a season average of 57.
EAGLES STUDS: Not a single West Coast player reached the 100-point mark, with Matthew Priddis top-scoring with 97 — and even that will lead to a price drop for the premium midfielder who has been a bit down on what we expect this year. Jeremy McGovern and Luke Shuey each scored 95.
EAGLES DUDS: Ten Eagles under 60 tells you all you need to know. And that doesn’t include Elliot Yeo, who was the most traded-in player last week and responded with a season-low 59. Yuck.
RICHMOND 88 d MELBOURNE 75
TIGER STUDS: If we awarded medals for the best SuperCoach picks of the season so far, Toby Nankervis would definitely be on the podium. He took advantage of Jake Spencer’s injury to dominate the ruck and landed a couple of big tackles too on his way to a game-high 127 points. Jack Riewoldt turned six goals into 120 points and Shaun Grigg (100) continued his good form. Trent Cotchin and Dustin Martin finished strongly to score in the 90s.
TIGER DUDS: Todd Elton is one of the least-selected players in SuperCoach in just 204 teams, and that’s probably fair enough — he scored 34 last night for a season average of 40. But we’re tipping he doesn’t care too much. Dan Butler (64) keeps posting solid bench scores.
DEMON STUDS: Michael Hibberd was a popular pre-season pick in defence before an Achilles injury ruled him out of the first few rounds, but a 124 in his Demon debut will have many revisiting those plans. At $402,200 he’s an easy upgrade from the likes of Caleb Marchbank — but remember we have another week to watch him before his price changes. Clayton Oliver (115) just doesn’t miss and Tom McDonald scored 109 despite playing on Jack for most of the night.
DEMONS DUDS: Another Demons rookie copped an untimely injury — it was Joel Smith in Round 1, this time mature-ager Tim Smith went to hospital after a knee in the back from Alex Rance. Smith scored 22 and might be missing for a while.

ESSENDON 100 defeat COLLINGWOOD 82
BOMBERS STUDS: Dyson Heppell led from the front on Anzac Day, top scoring for Essendon with 123. Despite the win Michael Hurley (107) and Anzac Day Medallist Joe Daniher (105) were the only other Dons to ton up.
BOMBERS DUDS: Brent Stanton couldn’t get near it on Tuesday and finished with a match-low 34 points. Travis Colyer was no better with just 35 points. A shake of the finger to Zach Merrett who had the pill 33 times but scored just 83 points.
MAGPIES STUDS: Adam Treloar responded to criticism with an outstanding display that netted his owners 141 points. Jeremy Howe (108), Jack Crisp (106) and - in his Collingwood debut - Daniel Wells (103) also reached triple figures.
MAGPIES DUDS: Is Scott Pendlebury injured? His 81 per cent game time would suggest otherwise but the skipper looked a shadow of himself on the way to 67 points. Will Hoskin-Elliott isn’t suited to tough, wet-weather footy and his 51 points was probably generous.
