IF you’re worried about how to deal with the loss of Patrick Dangerfield, fear not. The answer to your SuperCoach prays could be in the form of a cash cow.

Champion data is here to break down the key numbers in this vital first week of finals.

Finishing quarters off full of running is a valuable commodity in SuperCoach.

It provides an obvious boost to scoring, and if we measure the impact on players from a rankings points of view in the time-on period of quarters (20-minute mark onwards), there are a few surprise packets, with a couple of popular cash cows matching it with the best in the competition.

Defenders Avg.
Rory Laird 39.6
Alex Witherden 39.2
Zac Williams 38.8
Sam Docherty 38.3
Michael Hurley 36.4
Jeremy McGovern 34.8
Luke Ryan 33.9
Jeremy Howe 33.5
Michael Hibberd 33.2
Nick Haynes 32.9

Rory Laird (39.6) is the most prominent defender in the competition in time-on periods of quarters, but it’s the second-ranked player, Alex Witherden, that catches the eye. Compared to the rest of the competition, he ranks fifth overall in this measure. He continues to go from strength-to-strength in his debut season, gathering at least 20 disposals in each of his first six games.

THE PHANTOM: WHAT TO DO WITH DANGER?

In fact, only Michael Hurley has won more disposals in the defensive 50 than Witherden since his debut in Round 14. He has become a key player in recent weeks, either as coverage for an underperformer, or as cover for an injured/suspended player, as he will be this week for the suspended Patrick Dangerfield. In essence, Witherden is saving SuperCoaches a valuable trade this round as he prepares to face the resurgent Bulldogs side at the Gabba.

Midfielders Avg.
Patrick Dangerfield 46.8
Gary Ablett 41.9
Dustin Martin 39.1
Brad Ebert 38.7
Mitch Duncan 38.5
Marcus Bontempelli 38.3
Hugh Greenwood 37.7
Scott Pendlebury 37.1
Jack Macrae 37.0
Luke Shuey 36.5

It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that the No. 1 ranked player in the competition, Patrick Dangerfield, leads the competition for points scored in the time-on periods (46.8). He will be missed by close to 140,000 SuperCoaches this round as he serves a one-game suspension. He also denies SuperCoaches a bumper captain score, racking up 279 more points than any other player in the league.

Gary Ablett (41.9) and Dustin Martin (39.1) round out the top three, while popular cash cow, Hugh Greenwood (37.7), ranks seventh among midfielders. Greenwood had a shocker last round against Collingwood and has already been offloaded by plenty of SuperCoaches.

Forwards Avg.
Devon Smith 37.5
Jake Stringer 34.9
Jack Billings 31.3
Lance Franklin 30.2
Daniel Menzel 30.2
Drew Petrie 30.2
Cameron Pedersen 30.0
Jarrad Waite 29.5
Nick Riewoldt 29.5
Toby Greene 29.3

Diminutive forward, Devon Smith, headlines the forwards for his output in the time-on period of quarters with an average of 37.5 points. Jake Stringer (34.9) ranks second, while fellow small forward, Jack Billings (31.3) ranks third overall. Lance Franklin, the most selected forward in the competition isn’t too far behind in equal-fourth place with 30.2 points per game alongside Daniel Menzel and Drew Petrie.

Only three of the top-five scoring ruckmen in the competition feature in the above table, these being Shane Mumford (40), Stefan Martin (36.3) and Matthew Kreuzer (36.1). The two ruckmen that miss out are Brodie Gundy and the in-form Patrick Ryder. Dropping below 100 points just once since Round 13, SuperCoaches are flocking to Ryder as he prepares for this round’s Showdown against Adelaide.
