KFC SuperCoach rage trades: Who to trade in and out ahead of Round 6
Every KFC SuperCoach has stories of trade disasters. But spare a thought for this particular team, which has dropped to 20,000th overall in the past four rounds after a serious of unlucky breaks.

Think you’ve had a rough run recently in KFC SuperCoach?
Spare a thought for Ben O’Brien, one half of the team behind the SuperCoach Take podcast.
He shared his tale of trade woe on Twitter, which started in Round 2 when he brought in Lachie Whitfield, who scored 97 but was concussed the next game with a score of eight.
The GWS star has since lost more than $160,000 from his starting price.
He also traded Josh Dunkley to Jack Viney, who was viewed as a cash cow but has already lost $30,000 after peaking at $523,600.
Things only got worse the next week when he traded Josh Kelly, who was a late withdrawal, back to Dunkley.
Dunkley, of course, scored 131 in the week he wasn’t in Ben’s team.
He then suffered a syndesmosis injury in the final seconds of Western Bulldogs’ clash with GWS and was ruled out for six weeks.
The next week Ben tossed up between Jy Simpkin and Bailey Smith as Dunkley’s replacement, eventually settling on his Bulldogs teammate.
Smith will soon be available for about $400,000 after he was knocked out in the first quarter of the Bulldogs’ win over North Melbourne on three points.
The next week Brandon Zerk-Thatcher became Tom Williamson in Ben’s team LynchMob, but that meant missing out on Jordan Ridley who subsequently scored 122.
His other Round 5 trade was to replace Nat Fyfe with Marcus Bontempelli, who was shut down by Luke McDonald and scored 55.
The kicker, of course, is that Fyfe is now expected back this round.
Ben has dropped from about 6000th overall to 20,000th during that stretch, however he’s no KFC SuperCoach slouch.
He finished in the top 1000 last season and was ranked 110th overall with two rounds left.

CHAMPION DATA ROUND 5 REVIEW: CRIPPS’ HUGE SECOND HALF
As Jack Steele blanketed Patrick Cripps on Thursday night, almost 90,000 KFC SuperCoaches would have had serious concerns.
The Carlton co-captain battled through the opening half against the Saints and had only recorded 29 KFC SuperCoach points at the main break.
Cripps lifted considerably after halftime, finishing with 22 possessions and kicking a goal despite the Blues’ 18-point defeat.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: MAX GAWN
Gawn was helped by an injury to Toby Nankervis in the second half at the MCG on Sunday but 97 of his round-high 163 SuperCoach points were scored in the first half. He found plenty of the ball around the ground, winning 22 disposals, while defensively he applied himself with six tackles. Gawn also recorded 12 hit-outs-to-advantage to cap off an excellent display.

Jordan Ridley
Ridley’s price boomed by a further $49,900 after scoring 122 SuperCoach points in the Bombers’ win over Collingwood. He hit the target with 15 of 18 disposals and also recorded 12 uncontested possessions, three tackles and two inside 50s from 92 per cent game time. Ridley also recorded four intercept possessions and two intercept marks.
Patrick Cripps
After being completely blanketed in the first half by Jack Steele, Cripps bounced back, scoring 87 of 116 SuperCoach points after halftime. He finished with 22 disposals, 13 contested possessions, four clearances, three score assists and one goal from 88 per cent game time.
Elliot Yeo
Yeo led the Eagles to their first victory since the season opener with a season-high 121 SuperCoach points. He finished with 21 disposals, 12 contested possessions, five tackles, five inside-50s and an equal game-high nine clearances. Yeo also had three score assists and was involved in a game-high nine scoring chains.
YOUNG GUN: HAYDEN YOUNG
Young didn’t reach the heights of the previous round, but he still scored 68 SuperCoach points and spiked in price by $39,400. He hit the target with 11 of his 15 disposals, and also recorded 13 uncontested possessions and six marks from 77 per cent game time. Young used the ball well by foot, recording a kicking efficiency of 80 per cent.

RAGE TRADES: VINEY’S CASH GENERATION MAXED OUT
The plan seemed simple enough.
Get Jack Viney after a score of 186 in Round 1 at $439,300, watch his price soar and then jump off at the top of his price point.
A classic KFC SuperCoach cash grab.
The only issue was Viney’s peak of $523,600 came in the same week coaches were juggling injuries to Nat Fyfe, Tom Stewart, Sam Naismith and Jeremy Howe.
As a result, he lost $30,000 and is set to bleed more value due to a break even of 136.
The Demons midfielder hasn’t gone close to his Round 6 break even in the past three matches, producing scores of 86, 91 and 60.
His statistics on the weekend weren’t bad — 18 disposals, three marks and three tackles — but only resulted in a score of 60 which you can get from a rookie.
Matthew Rowell’s shoulder injury is a problem every coach will be dealing with, but Viney is a more pressing issue.
Boot Him
Jack Viney Mid $493,500 — 60 pts
Viney has been slowly reducing his scoring since a monster 186 in Round 1. This is now out of his price cycle and he lost $30,000 at the weekend. To make that pain worse, he isn’t scoring at a competitive level. He is being overshadowed in the Melbourne midfield by Clayton Oliver and Christian Petracca and must be traded from your team as soon as you can.
Darcy Parish Fwd/Mid $406,700 — 62 pts
In the pre-season we were promised more midfield time for Parish and that just isn’t happened. His scores have all been under 90, which is not what we wanted with a starting price of $465k. He has dropped in price now and will continue to fall further with more scores like this one. The experiment is over and it’s time to cut him loose.
Tim Kelly Mid $483,600 — 77 pts
Kelly has been inconsistent this season with three games under 90. He isn’t the key man in the midfield like he was at the Cats. There are plenty of other great players in the Eagles midfield looking to get possessions and a greater share of the load.
Shannon Hurn Def $499,900 — 68 pts
Hurn had an outstanding Round 1 but since the restart of the season he hasn’t been over 90 points and this was his lowest score of the season. We were worried about him in the pre-season as an injury risk and he isn’t getting the possessions that we need for him to get a great score. He’s well-priced ahead of a hub, but hardly an attractive buy.
Shaun Higgins Mid $491,500 – 35 pts
If there is one thing we can’t stomach in KFC SuperCoach it is inconsistency. After his 141 last week Higgins dropped down to 35 points. He did appear to have some knee issues and we may find out more about this during the week, but for now keep him in consideration as someone you may want to cut free from your side.
Brodie Smith Def $440,300 — 72 pts
Smith was unable to replicate the previous two weeks where he managed 90+ scores. His drop to 72 would have disappointed owners that held him through a tough opening two weeks. He is mid-priced but you should be able to get to someone that is more likely to finish as a top-six defender for within $100,000 more.

Devon Smith Fwd/Mid $407,100 – 70 pts
After consecutive tons to start to the season Smith now has a pair of 70s in the last two games. This is a huge concern for owners and in particular with Dylan Shiel playing so well in the midfield it could really hurt Smith’s opportunities. He only attended seven of the 21 centre bounces against Collingwood, meaning he is spending more time up forward which is a worrying sign.
Tom Doedee Def $351,700 – 116 pts
What a ride it is if you are a Doedee owner. His scoring has gone 39, 113, 48 and now 116. If we knew he could deliver something around 100+ each week, KFC SuperCoaches would be more than happy to pick him up. His price is still very low and he does present great value.
James Sicily Def $515,300 – 44 pts
Sicily would have cost a lot of owners league wins this week (he certainly did for me) and had to play more of a lock down role thanks to injuries the Hawks sustained. Don’t panic just yet, but any more scores like this and you may need to rethink whether he stays in your team.

Matthew Rowell Mid $470,700 – 6 pts
Wow. None of us saw this coming. We all planned to have Rowell in our teams until the end of the season and people were jumping on the young Sun for the Brownlow Medal. As of Monday, we don’t know the severity of the injury, but it certainly looks like he will be out for several weeks. He has made us plenty of money but the downside is that he scored just six this week against his break-even of 21, which caused him to drop $7600. If the news comes back that he will miss more than two weeks you should be trading him out.

Dan Hannebery Mid $375,900 — 49 pts
Hannebery had ice on his lower hamstring in the third quarter and now looks set for a while on the sidelines. This is really disappointing for him and his owners as he started the year very well.
Luke Shuey Mid $507,300 — 33 pts
Shuey pulled a hamstring in the first quarter and we didn’t see him after that. Unfortunately, he could be missing for a while now. Keep a watch on the injury reports to see how serious the injury is. This will open up more opportunity for Andrew Gaff and Elliot Yeo through the midfield.
Bailey Smith Mid/Fwd $459,600 — 3 pts
Unfortunately a heavy clash with the turf at Marvel Stadium resulted in Smith missing most of the game through concussion. This has seen his value drop and he will plummet further due to a huge break even. If he does miss it should be just a week so he’s worth holding.

Jordan Ridley Def $460,000 – 122 pts
Ridley was a very popular trade in for the injured Jeremey Howe and didn’t he reward those coaches that took the plunge on him! His 122 was his third score over 100 in the four games that the Bombers have played. He has a great role and he is using the footy really well. He had 100 per cent efficiency on his disposals up until half time. His price is rising though so this may be the last chance to get him at a great price.
Brayden Maynard Def $543,400 – 116 pts
Like Ridley, Maynard was another popular target for Howe owners and he also didn’t disappoint. His 116 made it five scores over 100 for the season. He wasn’t as popular as Ridley at just 7.2 per cent ownership against the Bomber’s 12.6 per cent but his role and scoring look to be locked in with Howe out of the side.
Patrick Dangerfield Mid $556,600 – 104 pts
Dangerfield has now had two 100+ scores in a row and this could be the turn in his season we have been waiting for. If this is the start of a run of form, this would be the time to jump on. He only just missed his break even but he will now start to rise in value. He looks to be heading back towards the level of form we are accustomed to.
Tim English Ruc $522,300 – 125 pts
This seems to be the year of the ruckman with nearly all of the big men scoring well. English has been no exception. His last three weeks have now been scores of 120, 145 and 125. His price is starting to head north rapidly and if you need to upgrade Sam Naismith or Sam Jacobs then English might just be reachable for you.
Christian Petracca Fwd $509,700 – 111 pts
Just one game under 100 so far from Christian Petracca and he looked fantastic against the Tigers — even though the Demons lost. He is delivering on the potential that most thought he had and it is time to jump aboard. He has only just gone over $500k and looks set to be one of the top-six scoring forwards at the end of the season.
Nick Haynes Def $541,100 – 148 pts
Haynes was one of the options for those that needed to trade out Howe last week. If this is the way you went then well done, but if you still have Howe to trade out thanks to other issues in Round 5, then Haynes would be a great target. He hasn’t been lower than 97 yet.
