Buy, Hold, Sell guide for Round 18 | KFC SuperCoach AFL

Welcome to KFC Supercoach grand final week — you made it!

After an incredible rollercoaster of a season, give yourself a pat on the back for making it this far.

If you are still alive in one or more of your leagues, this is the biggest week of the year. But everyone else is still playing for bragging rights in the overall rankings and every point counts.

If you have trades left you can’t take them into next year so you need to use them. This week we are all about using the last one or two trades you have left to optimise your side ready for a win this week so you can lift the trophy aloft!

Here’s who has to go and who to bring in for your SuperCoach grand final.

BOOT HIM

Shannon Hurn DEF — 88 points

Just one score over 100 in his past seven games and playing a team (North Melbourne) where the ball won’t be down back too often tells us that he could be someone that you could luxury trade out to a player like a Tom Stewart. He has had only three scores over 100 all season and this week you need players that have a high ceiling.

Todd Goldstein RUCK — 76 points

Goldy started the year in a blaze of glory but in his past seven games he has only had one score over 105 and his past four have been 58, 95, 101 and now a 76. The biggest concern for owners is that in the final round he comes up against a very in-form Nic Naitanui. If you can move him to Max Gawn, Brodie Grundy, Reilly O’Brien or Naitanui then that could be the play to make.

Joe Daniher FWD — 23 points

If you brought him in trying to get some value points then you may want to re-think that plan. If you have two trades left and need cash then look at trading him down to a basement-priced rookie. He comes up against Melbourne this week and will likely have a Jake Lever or Steven May playing on him.

Jeremy Cameron FWD — 69 points

He looked like a value trade-in a few weeks ago but four of his past six games have been under 70 with three of them under 45. He has been thrown around the field a bit of late and we saw him on the wing against the Crows. If you have the trade and money to upgrade him then that would be a good plan.

Sam Docherty DEF — 13 points

Many thought he wouldn’t play this week which in hindsight may have been the better way to go for KFC Supercoaches. He came off early with a calf injury and with Carlton’s season now over you wouldn’t expect him to play this week. Hopefully you have held a trade to move him on!

Nick Haynes DEF — 46 points

His score against the Demons was his lowest of the season and next week he has a critical game against the Saints which the Giants need to win to try and get into the top eight. It will be a tight contest and this may work against his scoring potential.

Lachie Neale MID — 55 points

We aren’t saying you have to trade him out but you may want to think very carefully about whether or not you put the C on him this week. He is up against Carlton and is highly likely to get a tag from Ed Curnow. If you can VC him that would be a better option that relying on the straight captaincy for him. And if you need a crazy move to win a GF, swapping him for another in-form midfielder could pay off ... or blow up in your face!

Taylor Adams MID - 67 points

After averaging 114 without Treloar, Adams finished with just 67 points from his 18 possessions with his star teammate back in the side. Up against the Power this week, and with Treloar back, we simply can’t trust him in our midfield.

BUY HIM

Max Gawn RUCK — 150 points

It has been the plan all season for coaches and if you don’t have him yet and have a luxury trade and plenty of cash then you may want to bring him in. The Demons are still in the race for the eight and is up against Sam Draper this week which should deliver yet another huge score.

Tom Stewart DEF — 127 points

He hasn’t been under 100 now for the past six games, plays the Swans this week and should be high on your shopping list for your grand final. He is having an amazing season after he was injured earlier in the season.

Blake Acres FWD/MID — 117 points

He has now played three games after returning to the team and he hasn’t scored under 110! He is also not overly expensive so if you are struggling for dollars you should be seriously considering him as an option. The Dockers are playing some good footy and Acres is certainly amongst their best.

Andrew Gaff MID — 154 points and Tim Kelly MID — 180 points

With the absence of Elliot Yeo and Luke Shuey in that Eagles midfield these two guys tore it up this week. Add to that they play the Kangaroos for your Grand Final who are giving up a heap of KFC Supercoach points and you should really look at bringing them in if you have the trades to do it. They also play the first game of the round so you may want to put the VC on Gaff and see how you go!

Tom Rockliff MID — 142 points

A long-time KFC SuperCoach favourite, Rockliff has had a great run and has only been under 100 once in his past eight games, and this week was his best for the season. He has found his rhythm again and in the wet conditions at Adelaide Oval he couldn’t get away from the footy. In what should be a tough contest against Collingwood look for Rocky to get plenty of clearances and contested possessions.

Dustin Martin MID/FWD — 85 points

You may wonder why we say to pick Martin up this week given he didn’t have a big score in his last game. But he plays the Crows this week and he should have a big day out — and he provides a lot of value in terms of his low price. And we know Dusty loves a grand final! If you are struggling for cash then he could be the man for you.

Reilly O’Brien RUCK — 101 points

If you are in need of a ruckman but can’t find the cash for Gawn then you could take a close look at ROB. He is up against the Tigers at home this week and with Ivan Soldo out this will leave him competing with Toby Nankervis and Mabior Chol. His athleticism and ability to find the footy should see him score well again this week.

Jack Crisp DEF - 138 points

Crisp is averaging 132 points from his last three games and he should be a popular trade in this week. After a mid-season period when he averaged 88 between rounds five and 13, this has been a great turnaround. Just beware that he will spend the game with Charlie Dixon to worry about.

ROOKIES

Clearly you aren’t bringing in any rookies this week (unless you need them to generate cash for your second trade) but you may need to play one on the ground if you have had a shocker of a run with injury. If you need to play one, here are the only ones that I would consider.

Lachie Sholl DEF – 110 points

Sholl has had a solid season for the Crows and if you are running with him on the bench you may want to consider looping him on to the field this week if you can. Or he could provide cover for Docherty, allowing you to use any remaining trades to boost your team in other positions.

Trent Rivers has produced great scores for a rookie in recent weeks.

Harry Schoenberg MID – 97 points

Another Crow who is getting some good minutes and playing some good footy. If you find yourself with a late out in the midfield then Harry is the one that you should bring on from your bench.

Trent Rivers DEF/MID – 107 points

Rivers had a fantastic game against GWS and those who played him over Docherty certainly hit the jackpot! He is quickly cementing a spot in that Demons side and proving to be a handy bench or loophole player.

John Noble DEF – 107 points

Noble has had a fantastic back half of the season. He has been firmly entrenched in a number of D6 positions and if you have other issues to deal with, you can leave him there.
