KFC SuperCoach Hall of Fame: Gary Ablett, Scott Pendlebury, Brendon Goddard, Nick Riewoldt - who goes through to the final?

The first four players to be inducted into the KFC SuperCoach Hall of Fame have been chosen. But who will become a legend? Have your say on the final two head-to-head matchups

AFL weighs up training protocols for restart

The KFC SuperCoach community has decided.

Through a rigorous voting process, SuperCoaches have narrowed down 64 of the best picks to four Hall of Fame inductees for 2020.

Perennial SuperCoach king Gary Ablett took care of Chris Judd comfortably and Collingwood skipper Scott Pendlebury powered past star ruckman Brodie Grundy to earn his spot.

In the two other quarter-final matchups, key-position powerhouse Nick Riewoldt overcame Tiger star Dustin Martin, while his former St Kilda teammate Brendon Goddard narrowly edged-out Geelong champion Jimmy Bartel.

Ablett, Pendlebury, Goddard and Riewoldt will be the first four inducted into the KFC SuperCoach Hall of Fame but only one will be crowned a legend.

It’s over to you.

GARY ABLETT

Games played (2008-2020): 221, Average: 123, High score: 251, Highest season average: 140 (2009)

Is there anyone more deserving of a Hall of Fame spot than the SuperCoach king himself? The Litte Master has dominated voting in each of his match-ups after averaging 127 points or more in seven consecutive seasons between 2008 and 2014. Ablett posted five SupeCoach double-tons through this period and, in 2009, the dual Brownlow Medallist scored 139 or more in 12 of his 19 home-and-away matches. The first SuperCoach perma-captain.

SCOTT PENDLEBURY

Games played (2008-2020): 270, Average: 114, HS: 184, Highest season average: 129 (2011)

In the earliest years of SuperCoach, the long-time Collingwood captain was one of the stars who set the mark for other premium midfielders to aspire to, with very few on-ballers matching his career-high of 129.2 from 2011. In fact, not many have even passed the 124-point mark like he did in the following three seasons. The last time he didn’t average triple figures was 2007, his first full AFL campaign.

BRENDON GODDARD

Games played (2008-2020): 244, Average: 104, High score: 184, Highest season average 131 (2010)

Dual-position. High ceiling. Durability. All three traits are rare even in the biggest SuperCoach names. But they are three words you can associate with Brendon Goddard over his career. The Saint-turned-Bomber’s 131-point average as a defender in 2010 and his five consecutive three-figure averages between 2008 and 2011 make him a worthy Hall of Fame inductee.

NICK RIEWOLDT

Games played (2008-2020): 202, Average: 100, High score: 187, Highest season average 116 (2009)

The ‘don’t pick key-forwards in SuperCoach’ rule never applied to the St Kilda champion. Riewoldt tallied 26 disposals, 21 marks, nine goals and 187 points against the Lions in 2016 and averaged 108 points or more in three seasons under the current scoring system, five times if you include the two years prior to the change.
