Jon Ralph is looking for players with upside in his early SuperCoach team

Finding players with upside is JON RALPH’s recipe for SuperCoach success and he’s filled his December side with high draft picks, mature-agers and a few boom-or-bust players. TAKE A LOOK!

SuperCoach is for everyone, not just the number crunchers who sweat over their sides all week.

The success of my Supercoach year is basically down to whether I beat Robbo and that smug Supercoach so-and-so Sammy Edmund and make finals.

And given I am not great on numbers, my recipe for success is finding players with upside.

So this is my December Supercoach side full of players with upside, guys who surely will rise in price.

The exception is the rucks because it’s hard to play Shane Mumford with an initial two-week suspension and it might just be time to lock in two stars who can be your captain every week.

Right now it’s only December, so I have Brodie Grundy, Zac Clark and the mature-ager Darcy Fort from Geelong.

I am open to your suggestions about how I create some cap space to get Max Gawn into my side.

So here it is, full of high draft picks, Gold Coast mature-agers and a handful of players slotting into new sides who should have starring roles.

Then there are a couple of risks, players like Jason Johannisen and Aaron Francis who could be game-changers or could bust me.

Francis is clearly a risk but he finished the year with 10 contested marks in the last fortnight and if he plays third tall all year, he will surely rise far above $350K a year.

Will Setterfield is coming off an ACL, but you can’t not snap him up at $145K.

Chad Wingard plus a new home plus Alastair Clarkson makes Supercoach magic for me.

I reckon he might just play with a chip on his shoulder all year, and if Clarko can play him 70-30 as a forward/mid, he could slot 50 goals for the Hawks.

James Sicily is pretty steep at $570,000 but I reckon he still has upside in him given his towering presence down back.

Patty Dangerfield is similarly expensive but he spent most of the first half of last season limping around with a back issues.

Jordan de Goey had a breakout year despite spending the last six weeks off the training track and in pain with his leg issue.

Players like that not only have upside, they are just darned fun to watch.

Everyone is going to spend the summer wondering if Tom Lynch is banged up and on the downward swing.

Then if he has overcome the same PCL reconstruction that Luke Hodge, Cyril Rioli and Jarryd Roughead have all had on their knee, he will come out and brain them.

He has spent two years limping around the football field in a side that gave him poor service.

If he can hit Round 1 running, he is a contested marking beast who could hit up at the ball carrier enough to get Nick Riewoldt-type possession tallies when the Tigers play him high.
