Buy, Hold, Sell guide for Round 10 | KFC SuperCoach AFL

With the new challenge of bye rounds being added to the latter part of the season, it is important for KFC SuperCoach players keep an eye out for upgrade targets to bring in after they have had their bye.

The benefit of bringing in these players is that they won’t have another bye for the remainder of the season. This means you can maximise points, rather than picking someone who will miss a game down the track.

Hawthorn, Carlton, Fremantle and West Coast are missing this week’s action, so there are plenty of handy options to consider when the Round 9 lockout ends on Friday night.

The likes of Patrick Cripps and Tom Mitchell will be popular targets but here are four more players to consider who will be fresh from a rest and ready to give your team the edge in the run home.

ANDREW BRAYSHAW $546,800 FWD/MID – 102.7 Average

Brayshaw is enjoying a stellar breakout season in just his third year in the AFL.

After being restricted to a predominantly forward line role in 2019, Fremantle has embraced a youth movement in the midfield, and this begins with the former No.2 draft pick.

Spearheaded by the loss of Nat Fyfe, Brayshaw was pushed into the midfield spotlight early, and has not disappointed. He has tonned up his past five games, which includes three 122-plus scores. He has been a pillar of consistency for most of the season as he has only dropped below 80 twice in 2020 (includes a near miss, 78).

What is crucial for the 20-year-old is that he continues to get midfield minutes. The good news in this department is with Darcy Tucker going down with a hamstring injury, and Fyfe continuing to spend more time in the forward 50, the Dockers will pump midfield minutes into their youth.

It isn’t too late to jump on this budding star, and even with the imminent return of Michael Walters, Brayshaw firms as a top-six premium option.

CHAD WINGARD $421,400 FWD/MID – 92.4 Average

A cheaper hit and miss forward option to bring in is Chad Wingard. After a poor 2019 campaign, many of us thought that his time as a premium KFC SuperCoach scorer was over, but the human highlight reel is enjoying resurgence of form.

With a year at Hawthorn under his belt and the return of star midfielder Tom Mitchell, Wingard has proven to be one of the most important members of the team. His playmaking ability and slick midfield craft has his teammates constantly trying to feed him the ball. Wingard ranks among the best players in the competition in score involvements and goals per game, highlighting how damaging he can be.

Although consistency can be an issue at times, this typically balances out due to his very high ceiling. wingard has eclipsed 112 on four occasions, and continues to see more midfield minutes as the year goes on. If you are operating on a budget and want a budget point of difference, Wingard is your man.

LUKE SHUEY $488,100 MID – 99.4 Average

Shuey is one of the most perennially underrated players in the AFL. He goes about his business every week and almost never has a bad game. With all the star names at West Coast, you can often overlook this damaging midfielder, but here’s why you shouldn’t.

Excluding his injury-affected score of 33 in Round 5, Shuey is averaging a phenomenal 110.5, which makes him a top-10 calibre midfielder. Although his numbers won’t wow you, it’s his damaging use of possession which nets him points. He averages over four score involvements, four clearances and 19.5 disposals per game, which are all key factors in building a prototype KFC SuperCoach scorer.

What makes Shuey a superb option this week is his very low price tag. There are not many sub-500k midfield options with his scoring potential. The reason he is cheap is of course due to his injury-affected game and represents tremendous value for money.

He remains in the WA hub, where he averages a touch under 100 points a game, and with Tim Kelly in form, a tag is unlikely to come his way. With less time to compile a premium squad this season, locking up an under-priced gun is critical.

SHANNON HURN $429,100 DEF – 86.3 Average

Hurn has enjoyed KFC SuperCoach stardom in his later years, and at the price of $429,100, is he too good to refuse?

Coming off a 2019 season when he averaged 103.5, Hurn began the year with a bang, scoring 152 KFC SuperCoach points in Round 1, but since then he has provided a mixed bag.

In eight games post the COVID-19 break, Hurn has managed to reach the ton once, which is just not good enough for a premium option. West Coast has been playing a much more team-oriented defensive game plan, and players have been splitting points much more evenly. This can be seen by career-high averages of teammates Brad Sheppard and Liam Duggan.

At the age of almost 33, it looks like Hurn is beginning to take a backwards step and isn’t relied upon as much as he once was. His age has to factor in decisions trade decisions too, as future fixture congestion is still on the cards.

Given there are 24 defenders averaging more than Hurn at this point in time, despite the low-price tag, you should pass on him. There are plenty of more talented scorers available, so it isn’t worth settling for mediocrity.
