WHO starred and who flopped in Round 3?

We look at the best and worst SuperCoach performances of the round.

We’ll be updating throughout the weekend, so don’t forget to check back and see how your players fared.

PORT ADELAIDE 112 DEF ESSENDON 51

Power studs: After a horror game last weekend midfielder Jared Polec (123) bounced back in a big way with his first ton of the year. Robbie Gray (123) continued his stellar form with the most disposals on the ground a massive 12 clearances on the night. Matthew Broadent (111), Aaron Young (101) and Charlie Dixon (100) also managed triple figures in the big win.

Power duds: After finishing last year with a bang, popular dual position pick Sam Gray (78) had 20 disposals but only ran at 50 per cent efficiency and Matthew Lobbe (60) didn’t set the world on fire.

Bombers studs: Skipper Brendon Goddad (125) was the biggest scorer on the ground and is showing plenty of heart leading his undermanned team. James Kelly (121) went big in the loss and David Zaharakis (101), Zach Merrett (99) and Matt Dea (95) continued their impressive start to the season

Bombers duds: Where for art thou Ryan Crowley? Only 28 points from 14 disposals and swingman Mitch Brown (38) was disappointing after a 72 last week. Nick Kommer (38) didn’t see much of it and Michael Hartley (56) didn’t hit the heights of last week or his NAB Challenge form.

ST KILDA 119 DEF COLLINGWOOD 90

Saints studs: Leigh Montagna (150) did as he pleased, racking up 40 disposals in an outstanding performance, while Jack Steven (120) had plenty of touches and booted two goals. Jack Newnes (111), Jack Billings (109), Maverick Weller (105) and Sam Gilbert (102) all hit triple figures in a memorable day at the MCG for St Kilda.

Saints duds: Dylan Roberton (67) suffered a knee injury in the third term and didn’t take any further part in the last quarter, while Paddy McCartin’s (37) day ended at halftime.

Pies studs: Tom Langdon (124) enjoyed more time up the field again and showed he can find plenty of the ball plus boost his scores with marks, while Adam Oxley (118) was also among the young Pies to impress. Taylor Adams (107), Scott Pendlebury (102) and Adam Treloar (101) hit the ton. Jordan De Goey (89) found some form.

Pies duds: Darcy Moore (26) found the going tough with limited opportunities, as did Jeremy Howe (37) in his first game in black and white. Marley Williams (18) was injured in the first term.

ADELAIDE 128 DEF RICHMOND 92

Crows Studs: Bizarrely, only two Crows reached triple figures — compared to four Tigers — despite winning by 36 points. Brodie Smith led the way in his 100th match scoring 107 while Eddie Bett’s three goals helped him to 106 points. Jarryd Lyons impressed with 97 after being a late inclusion and Sam Jacobs (95) and Rory Sloane (92) bounced back to form.

Crows Duds: Rory Atkins was the lowest scorer with just 36 to his name. Riley Knight (37) and Wayne Milera (39) weren’t much better.

Tigers Studs: Bachar Houli finished his a massive 144 after racking up 36 touches. Skipper Trent Cotchin finished with 129, so at least he’s producing in SuperCoach land. Brandon Ellis had a game-high 39 touches, which saw him score 119. Alex Rance scored 116.

Tigers Duds: Connor Menadue looked a solid cash cow at the start of the season but his 31 against Adelaide will have plenty of owners tearing their hair out. Fellow rookies Jayden Short (46), Corey Ellis (53) and Daniel Rioli (54) were only slightly better.

SYDNEY 93 DEF GWS GIANTS 68

Swans Studs: Luke Parker continues to do Luke Parker things. He topscored with 129 and his popularity will only increase this week. Dan Hannebery racked up 125, Josh Kennedy 124 and Tom Mitchell 108 as the Swans dominated the midfield.

Swans Duds: Uber-popular rookie Tom Papley was on -2 at one stage before a remarkable recovery saw him finish with 46. Popular midfield cash cow George Hewitt won’t be doing much moo-ing by the looks of it after scoring just 19. Callum Sinclair was well beaten by Shane Mumford, scoring 52.

Giants Studs: Heath Shaw finally produced with a game-high 129, much to the relief of his owners. Shane Mumford dominated the ruck and his score of 117 was almost better than Kurt Tippett and Callum Sinclair combined. Callan Ward (109), Lachie Whitfield (104) and Dylan Shiel (101) also impressed.

Giants Duds: Looks like Toby Greene owners will be riding the rollercoaster this season. After a big score last week, the Giants ball-winner managed just 52 this week. Aiden Corr was injured in a marking contested and left the field with 15 points to his name. Will Hoskin-Elliott couldn’t get near it this week, scoring 31.

Jacob Weitering and Gary Ablett had big games on Saturday night.
Jacob Weitering and Gary Ablett had big games on Saturday night.

GOLD COAST 95 DEF CARLTON 41

Suns Studs: Aaron Hall is being groomed as Gary Ablett’s heir on the Coast. In real life and in SuperCoach life. Ablett scored 135 and Hall 134 as they racked up 35 and 40 touches respectively. Kade Kolodjashnij (113), Tom Lynch (112) and Michael Rischitelli (102) all tonned up.

Suns Duds: Trent McKenzie copped a broken nose in the opening term and his day finished with just 5 points to his name. Ryan Davis continues to be solid but not spectacular, his 51 points was the third lowest score of any Sun.

Blues Studs: All hail the coming of Jacob Weitering. The Blues young gun is the club’s best defender in just his third game and in the argument for top five overall. His 129 was full of intercept marks and cool decision-making. Sam Docherty 116 continues to impress across half-back while Ed Curnow (107) and Matt Wright (103) also tonned up.

Blues Duds: Dylan Buckley did some nice things but wasn’t in the game often enough, scoring 35. The same could be said of Blaine Boekhorst was scored the same. Dale Thomas looked liked a world-beater last week but fell back to earth against the Suns with a 57. Marc Murphy managed just 64 and Sam Kerridge 65.

WEST COAST 92 DEF FREMANTLE 59

Eagles studs: Eight Eagles cracked triple figures led by Luke Shuey (119), Matt Priddis (117) and Nic Naitanui (114). There was just too much firepower in attack with Lewis Jetta (108), Scott Lycett (107), Jack Darling (105) and Josh Kennedy (101) combining for eight goals.

Eagles duds: Defender Jeremy McGovern’s price is set to drop after another average score. His 64 points is not good value from a $429k player. Jack Redden (36) had a stinker with just 10 disposals, three of them clangers.

Dockers studs: He may not have been as prolific as last week, but Nat Fyfe was again the Dockers best with 115 points from 26 disposals, five clearances and six marks. Defenders Garrick Ibbotson and Cameron Sutcliffe both rebounded from poor games last week to score 112 and 106 points respectively.

Dockers duds: Ruckman Aaron Sandilands (27) will have to traded out after he suffered a collapsed lung in the second quarter. The Dockers had plenty of passengers including Michael Walters (39), Nick Suban (33) and Tendai Mzungu (32).

NORTH MELBOURNE 136 DEF MELBOURNE 131

North studs: Who else but Todd Goldstein? He had 76 points in the first quarter and finished with a massive 172 points after five goals. Incredible performance. Brent Harvey (131) wasn’t far behind after his five goals in another starring role, while Jack Ziebell (124) and Jarrad Waite (123) were critical in the victory. Daniel Wells (90) had a quiet first three quarters but stormed home.

North duds: A star last year, Shaun Higgins (65) struggled to have an impact and would have disappointed his owners given his hefty price tag, same goes for Ben Cunnington (66), Andrew Swallow (67) and Nick Dal Santo (68).

Dees studs: Goldstein was good but so was his direct opponent and remarkably, Max Gawn matched his counterpart’s 172 points. Jesse Hogan (113) provided a good target all game and Bernie Vince (103) and Jack Viney (96) led the way in the midfield. Clayton Oliver (90) also continued his rapid rise.

Dees duds: After scoring triple figures in his first two games for the Dees, Ben Kennedy (50) came crashing back down to Earth and Tom McDonald (55) was quiet. Skipper Nathan Jones (66) was also well held.

HAWTHORN 93 DEF WESTERN BULLDOGS 90

Hawks Studs: Despite the Hawks last quarter surge, only one player reached triple figures. Shaun Burgoyne was that man with 121. Sam Mitchell was his reliable best with 97 and Josh Gibson backed up his 191 last week with 90. James Sicily kicked the match-winner and scored 91.

Hawks Duds: What’s the go, Jordan Lewis? The Hawks stand-in captain could only muster 43 against teh Dogs. Liam Shiels wasn’t much better on his return from injury, scoring 49. Ryan Schoenmakers couldn’t get into the game on Sunday, scoring a match-low 29.

Bulldogs Studs: It was a big day at the office for Luke Dahlhaus as the little Dog racked up 33 touches and 154 SuperCoach points. Caleb Daniel was integral to the Dogs’ fightback and finished with 107. Rookie defender Marcus Adams continues to produce with a brilliant 97.

Bulldogs Duds: Jason Johanissen was the most traded-in player this week but was well held but the Hawks, managing 70. Amazingly, every Bulldog scored 50 or more. Tom Boyd was the lowest scoring Dog with 50. Tom Liberatore could produce a third-straight hundred, scoring 82, which really isn’t that disappointing.

GEELONG 125 DEF BRISBANE LIONS 56

Cats Studs: Patrick Dangerfield starred in his Simonds Stadium debut, racking up 100 points before half-time and finishing with 166. Midfield partner Joel Selwood also had a day out against the Lions, scoring 142. Seven Cats reached triple figures but Lincoln McCarthy’s 96 might be the best result for SuperCoaches from Sunday’s game.

Cats Duds: Rhys Stanley was almost invisible at times and scored just 26. Nakia Cockatoo wasn’t much better after being a late inclusion, scoring 29, after getting plenty of hype during the off-season.

Lions Studs: Mitch Robinson was at his fiery best on Sunday and led the Lions with 120, equal with midfielder Pearce Hanley. Dayne Zorko continued his good form, backing up his massive 150-score last week, with 111. Stef Martin keep his owners happy with 106.

Lions Duds: Allen Christensen did not enjoy his return to the Cattery and finished with a game-low 25. An incredible 10 Lions failed to reach 50 points.
