10 SIGNS SUPERCOACH LOCKOUT IS ALMOST UPON US:

Your phone is filled with screenshots of teams you’ve sent to your mates for feedback

Most of us know the feeling. Your phone tells you your memory is maxed out, you go to check your storage and you’ve got 500 pictures stored of Supercoach teams you were never going to use. Patience is a virtue and hopefully you returned the favour to the mates you’ve been bugging for feedback by bombarding them with screenshots.

Your spreadsheets at work have been replaced with JLT Series homework

Your boss walks past and you have to quickly switch tabs from selecting a $350,000 option in your forward line to that spreadsheet you’ve got due before a 4pm meeting. Surely the boss would understand that finding a forward rookie requires time and planning this year?

Your Twitter account is brimming with notifications from people chasing team advice

You spend the morning away from social media, head to lunch and check your Twitter notifications. Within a couple of hours, you’ve racked up hundreds of notifications from people who have tagged you and a horde of others to get advice on their teams. Can too much feedback be a bad thing?

WHY SAM WALSH IS THE BEST-PREPARED DRAFTEE IN DECADES

IS SAM WALSH THE MUST-HAVE SUPERCOACH PICK WE ALL THINK?

Your phone autocorrects to add the word Walsh every time you type Sam

The No.1 draft pick is one of the most popular players in Supercoach this year after two dazzling displays in the JLT Series. Try typing Sam into your phone and see if Walsh is the next word autocorrect recommends. You won’t be the only one if it does.

FIVE STRATEGIES TO NAILING YOUR SUPERCOACH FORWARD LINE

Your mates are hounding you to send over your league entry fee before Round 1 starts

Want to be a part of my cash league? You’ll have had messages from mates in the past few months like this as they look to fill the 18 spots in their league which has prizemoney on the line. If you commit, get your entry fee in by Round 1 or be prepared to face the wrath of the league commissioner.

You think you know more about the rookie-priced players than the clubs who drafted them

You might not have seen a minute of Bailey Smith, Nick Blakey or Zak Butters playing in the under-18 competitions last year, but you certainly know who they are now. You could swear you’ve known who these rookies are for years you’ve watched so many of their highlights.

You have convinced yourself starting with a swag of mid-priced players is a winning tactic

Brad Crouch, Tom Liberatore, Brodie Smith and Zac Williams can’t fail, right? You’re not a SuperCoach if you haven’t deviated from the tried and true plan of choosing guns and rookies at some point and selected a team packed with mid-priced risks. Nailing these picks is what sets the top SuperCoaches apart.

HOW TO RUN YOUR FIRST SUPERCOACH DRAFT

You don’t like to hold grudges, but you haven’t spoken to the friend who pipped you to Nat Fyfe in a SuperCoach draft for the past two weeks

SuperCoach drafts can be serious stuff. Who hasn’t had a player chosen from under their noses and held it against that coach for at least a few days?

HOW THE PHANTOM’S SUPERCOACH DRAFT UNFOLDED

You’ve already slapped the VC on Dustin Martin in preparation for a monster score in the season opener against Carlton

Dustin Martin’s record against the Blues in recent years is mouth-watering — 139 Supercoach in Round 1 last season and 159 in 2017. If you’ve chosen Dusty, put the VC on him, use the captain loophole and you’ll be ahead of the pack after the opening game of the year.

You’ve spent months trying to convince yourself Todd Goldstein or Stefan Martin can outscore Max Gawn and Brodie Grundy

No one loves the thought of shelling out $1.4 million on two players, let alone two ruckmen. But Brodie Grundy and Max Gawn were two of the three best scoring players last year. Todd Goldstein and Stefan Martin are quality big men, but they averaged at least 20 fewer points a game than Gawn and Grundy last year. Spend the big bucks and you’ll be rewarded handsomely.
