It was Friday night footy and it was a pair of blockbusters.
Port Adelaide held off a fast-finishing Geelong to record its first win at the Cattery since Travis Boak’s 10th AFL game before a slick Sydney taught a sloppy Fremantle a lesson in front of goal.

THE SUPERCOACH TAKEAWAYS
WINES GOES NUCLEAR
Ollie Wines regained his Brownlow Medal-winning form for Port Adelaide in the absence of captain Connor Rozee.
The inside midfielder finished with 33 disposals, 15 of those were contested, seven tackles and a goal to finish with 157 SuperCoach points.
Wines will be an amazing POD for the 4 per cent of SuperCoaches who own him this week.
WHAT TO DO WITH NAT FYFE?
It’s a question a lot of SuperCoaches will be asking themselves tonight.
Fyfe finished with just 60 points, which was largely due to giving away an eyebrow-raising six free kicks.
The two-time Brownlow-winner had a chance to kick a goal late but stuffed it by giving a handball he shouldn’t have.
Can you rely on him as a SuperCoach?
RYAN RISES IN THE SECOND HALF
They weren’t touches to write home about, but the 3600 SuperCoaches inside the top 10 per cent who traded Luke Ryan in this week would be extremely pleased with the half back’s second half.
He was rarely sighted to half time but accumulated a stack of the ball behind the play in the second half to finish with 111 points.
Of his 26 disposals, 18 of them came in the second half.
MEAD MAKES HIS MARK
Jackson Mead has thrown his chances of being Port Adelaide’s substitute out the window with a starring performance in Geelong.
Mead has been named the Power’s sub on regular occasions this year but recorded a sturdy 105 SuperCoach points at the Cattery.
Very few own Mead but that will definitely change if he keeps cracking SuperCoach centuries.
SERONG SHINES FOR DOCKERS
Fremantle star Caleb Serong can hold his head high after yet another brilliant performance for the Dockers.
Serong was on track to challenge his own club disposal record at half time when he had 25, trying his best when the chips were down.
He finished with a game-high 149 SuperCoach points in another terrific night.
Serong is averaging 130 points this year, which would certainly be pleasing the third of SuperCoaches who own him.

11:05: FT — SLICK SWANS GO A WIN CLEAR
Sydney has gone a win clear on top of the AFL ladder with a slick win over Fremantle.
The Dockers will rue its inaccuracy, as it matched — and at times bettered — the Swans in multiple areas of the game.
Caleb Serong had a massive night with 150 SuperCoach points while Nick Blakey topped the Swans’ charts.
10:55: BLAKEY INTO THE ROOMS
Nick Blakey has gone into the rooms to be assessed after a collision with a teammate.
He was collected high by some friendly fire during the final term.
Blakey appeared to be doing ok and was upset with the medical staff wanting to assess his condition.
The dashing defender has a team-high 127 SuperCoach points.
10:49: SHARP SHOOTING
Jeremy Sharp has kicked two goals in a minute for Fremantle, snapping his side’s trend of poor kicking for goal.
Sharp has surged up to 81 SuperCoach points halfway through the final term.
10:44: SWANS ADD FOX
Robbie Fox has been added into the game for defender Dane Rampe.
The swap has been confirmed as tactical.
Sydney is putting the foot down on the Dockers, now leading by 49 points.
10:42: FYFE UPDATE
Nat Fyfe has failed to emulate the form he captured the last time he was at Optus Stadium.
The two-time Brownlow Medallist has 57 SuperCoach points, which has been heavily impacted by four free kicks against.
He was in vintage touch against the Doggies two weeks ago and then was the sub against Richmond last week.
The coaches that held onto him or traded him in after his dine out on the Dogs will be shattered.
10:35: DOCKERS ADD SONNY
Fremantle has injected Michael Walters into the match at the expense of Michael Frederick.
The decision to remove Frederick was tactical.
Sydney is yet to add Robbie Fox into the game.
10:30: 3QT — SLICK SWANS SCHOOL SLOPPY DOCKERS
Fremantle leads all areas except one ... the scoreboard!
Despite winning majority of the major factors, the Dockers are trailing the Swans by 43 points at the final change.
The Dockers have 2.13 to show for it while the Swans have 11.2.
Caleb Serong, 30 disposals, is on his way to another massive night while Nick Blakey, Errol Gulden, Isaac Heeney and Ollie Florent are among the Swans’ best.
10:20: THEY MUST BE USING DIFFERENT FOOTYS!
Fremantle and Sydney have to be using different Sherrins with how each side is kicking in front of goal.
The Swans have a stunning 10.1 while the Dockers have an equally as eye-opening 2.13.
If it wasn’t for a lot of poor kicking, the Dockers would be much closer.
Caleb Serong has had the most SuperCoach points with 121.
9:58: FT — PORT HOLD ON
Port Adelaide has claimed its first win in Geelong since 2007, holding off the Cats by six points.
The Power surged out to a 49-point lead and were forced to hold off the fast-finishing Cats.
There will be questions asked about the advantage free kick but four-time premiership player Luke Hodge backed the umpires decision in on the broadcast.
The last time the Power won in Geelong, Travis Boak — who played his 355th game tonight — was playing in his 10th match.
Ollie Wines went nuclear in the absence of Connor Rozee, regaining some of his Brownlow Medal-winning form.
9:54: CONTROVERSY
There’s been controversy in Geelong.
The Cats won a free kick and took the advantage, it resulted in a Jeremy Cameron goal but the umpire brought it back.
Ollie Henry kicked a point from the free kick instead.
9:52: STENGLE!!
Tyson Stengle has kept Geelong in it with a beautiful set-shot kick.
The Cats are now down by only seven points with three minutes left.
It’s the closest the Cats have been since the four-minute mark of the first quarter.
9:47: WILL IT COME BACK TO JHF?
Port Adelaide’s Jason Horne-Francis has missed a regulation goal which would have put the Power up by 18 points with six minutes left in the game.
He won a high contact free kick and was only about 25m from goal but he sprayed it right.
It made the lead a three-kick margin (13 points) but a goal would have made it nearly impossible for the Cats.
9:44: ROHAN BRINGS CATS CLOSER
Gary Rohan has pulled Geelong within two kicks of Port Adelaide with eight minutes left in the game.
Rohan has kicked two goals and his needs a couple more to equal its biggest ever comeback.
9:41: HT — SHARP-SHOOTING SWANS PUT DOCKERS TO THE SWORD
Sydney’s impressive nine straight goals has it leading the Dockers by 40 points at the main break.
The Swans have taught the Dockers, who have kicked 1.8, a lesson in straight kicking.
Caleb Serong is on his way to break his own club record for disposals with 25.
9:38: CATS RESPOND
Geelong has responded to Mitch Georgiades’ goal with a goal from Ollie Henry.
It’s back to a three-goal game with 13 minutes left in the game.
Port Adelaide has made a sub, with Charlie Dixon out of the game for Francis Evans.
9:35: PORT LAND FIRST
Port Adelaide has drawn the first blood of the fourth quarter to extend its lead to 23 points.
Brad Close had a chance to trim it to 12 points at one end but missed and the Power travelled the length of the field to kick a goal of their own off the boot of Mitch Georgiades.
Georgiades’ goal breaks a run of three goals from the Cats.
9:30: SWANS SURGE AWAY
Chad Warner’s pair of second-quarter goals has Sydney up by 29 points in Perth.
The Swans have kicked seven straight compared Fremantle’s 1.7.
Fremantle star Caleb Serong has 70 SuperCoach points for his 20 disposals.
9:17: 3QT — HOW QUICKLY THINGS CAN CHANGE
Geelong kicked three goals in virtually 90 seconds to cut the lead from 36 to 18 in the blink of an eye.
The Power were up by 24 and inside 50 when Willie Rioli gave away a 100m penalty to get within 24.
The Cats added another in the final minute to get the crowd on their feet.
The Cats were down by 49 points at one point.
Ollie Wines has the most SuperCoach points on the ground with 112.
9:11: THAT HURTS THE CATS
Willie Rioli has looked dangerous from the outset tonight but his most recent major is a dagger in the Cats’ comeback .
Rioli kicked two early goals and one in the second, but his clever, crumbing goal late in the third has shoved the Power back out in front by 35 points.
It really came from nothing, as the Cats had kicked five of the past seven goals.
9:07: WAYWARD DOCKERS TRAIL
Fremantle has itself to blame for not taking a first-change lead against Sydney at Optus Stadium.
The Dockers have kicked 1.5 to the Swans’ 3.0 to quarter time.
Caleb Serong is on his way to another nuclear SuperCoach night with a nudge under 50 a quarter in.
9:06: CAMERON KICKS TRUE
It’s his first goal for the night but it feels like Jeremy Cameron has had a big impact tonight.
He’s just kicked his side within 30 points, breathing life into the Cats halfway through the third quarter.
Port Adelaide’s lead is 29 points.
8:56: A CONTRAST IN EFFICIENCY IN PERTH
Fremantle has got no reward for its forward half dominance by failing to finish its work inside 50.
The Swans have had just three shots on goals and have kicked all three of them.
In comparison, the Dockers have had four shots for four minor scores.
There’s five minutes left in the first quarter.
8:54: THEY COULDN’T, COULD THEY?
Back to back goals from Tyson Stengle has Geelong back within five goals.
Channel 7 commentator Brian Taylor has been manifesting a Cats comeback since halfway through the second term but now they’ve kicked four of the past five goals.
They couldn’t, could they?
8:50: A HENRY HANGER
Oliver Henry has added an early highlight in the second half down in Geelong, climbing for a high mark.
Unfortunately for Geelong, the forward wasn’t able to kick the goal and the Cats still trail by 42 points early in the third.
8:46: MCDONALD BREAKS DROUGHT
Logan McDonald has kicked a stunning goals to break the drought of goals at Optus Stadium.
With 11.30 left in the quarter, the Swans’ tall was the first to kick a goal.
Nick Blakey has 27 SuperCoach points.
8:32: KELLY’S TOUCHING TRIBUTE
GWS star Josh Kelly has paid a touching tribute to Cam McCarthy.
Kelly attributed McCarthy for getting him out of his shell in the early days of his career.
McCarthy was found dead this morning, aged 29.
Both sides will wear black armbands in Perth.

8:27: HT — POWER BLITZ HAS CATS ON THE ROPES
Geelong will need to complete its biggest comeback in the second half if it is to turn around the 41-point margin.
The Power kicked four goals to the Cats’ two in the second term to extend the quarter-time lead.
Port Adelaide’s midfield has taken command, in absence of skipper Connor Rozee.
Brownlow Medallist Ollie Wines is in vintage form with 89 SuperCoach points at the main break.
8:16: BUTTERS TO A CHORUS OF BOOS
Zak Butters has kicked a goal to a roaring boo from the Geelong crowd.
The Cats supporters were not pleased with a free kick not paid before Butters pounced on the loose ball with a left-foot snap.
His neat finish pushes the lead back out to 42 points with six minutes left in the quarter.
Butters has 14 disposals and a goal with six minutes left in the half.

8:09: THE HAWK IS ON THE BOARD
Is that the spark the Cats needed?
Tom Hawkins is on the board for the first time in a month with a trademark set shot.
It brings the Cats back within 42 points.
Chris Scott has already made a move, tactically subbing out ruckman Rhys Stanley for Oisin Mullin.
8:04: FINAL TEAMS IN PERTH
For those following the blog for the showdown in the west between Fremantle and Sydney, both teams have announced their final teams.
Robbie Fox will be the Swans’ sub while Michael Walters is in the vest for the Dockers.
Both sides are set to pay a tribute to Cam McCarthy with a moments silence before the first bounce.

7:58: POWERFUL START ROLLS ON
Willie Rioli has three goals and a direct goal assist as Port Adelaide has rocketed out to a 41-point lead.
The Power have already added two goals to their eight-goal first term.
Jason Horne-Francis is still causing Geelong serious headaches in the middle.
7:48: QT — THAT WAS SOME FIRST TERM
Port Adelaide has put Geelong on the back foot at home by handing the Cats their worst first quarter in 12 years.
The Power slammed through eight majors to the Cats’ three in a relentless opening term.
Jason Horne-Francis and Zak Butters, in the absence of captain Connor Rozee, were sublime in the middle of the ground.
So poor was Geelong’s start, the Power have the entire top 10 of SuperCoach leaders.
7:45:POWER CRACK HALF TON
Port Adelaide has rattled home eight goals in a sizzling first quarter of footy.
The Power have brought up a score of 50 with a minute left in the first term.
It’s the most a team has scored in a first quarter against Geelong since 2012.
7:43: HE DOES IT AGAIN
You just can’t let Jeremy Cameron kick the ball at any position on the ground.
For the second time tonight, Cameron’s penetrating kick has allowed the Cats to get over the back of the play to kick a goal.
The goal has again come against the tide of the match.
There’s been nine goals already and three minutes still remain in the first quarter.
7:40: THE POWER HAVE HALF A DOZEN
Port Adelaide’s hot start is continuing with Ollie Wines putting through the Power’s sixth goal.
Geelong has certainly responded but the Power have continued to score.
Horne-Francis has 42 SuperCoach points while Willie Rioli is still riding his two early goals with 40.
7:34: HORNE-FRANCIS AGAIN!
Jason Horne-Francis’ impact on this game has showed no signs of slowing down.
He just stormed out of a stoppage and hit Todd Marshall on the lead for another Power goal.
Horne-Francis has six disposals and a goal.
7:30: COAST-TO-COAST CATS
Geelong has gone from a defensive 50 stoppage to a second successive goal with a slick transition play.
Star forward Jeremy Cameron was the one that sliced through the Power lines with his ranging left foot, which resulted in a Tyson Stengle goal.
Cameron hasn’t kicked a goal yet but he has had an impact on this game early.
7:23: ROHAN RESPONDS
Gary Rohan has steered through a much-needed goal for Geelong.
The Cats got the ball over the back of the Port Adelaide defence and Rohan was left at the top of the square.
There was an option to give a handball over the top to Tom Hawkins in the square but he went back and kicked a goal against the tide of play.
It stopped a run of four goals from the visitors.
7:20: RIOLI!
Power livewire Willie Rioli has sparked his side with two quick goals to start the match.
His second came from a clever piece of work from forward Charlie Dixon on the line.
Port Adelaide has jumped Geelong, kicking four unanswered goals inside five minutes of the game.
7:15: JHF GETS POWER GOING
Jason Horne-Francis has got the Power off to a strong start in Geelong with the first goal.
Zak Butters has won a lot of the footy in transition while Willie Rioli looks dangerous.
Horne-Francis has had two of the Power’s four shots on goal inside the first five minutes of the game.
6:38: ‘WE’RE GRATEFUL’, SAYS SCOTT
Geelong coach Chris Scott says the Cats are “grateful” to have played a part in Tom Hawkins’ journey to equalling the club’s games’ record.
Speaking to Cam Mooney before the game, Scott showed his appreciation for Hawkins.
“He’s always played his footy thinking about the team ... we’re grateful to be able to share it with him,” he said.
“I am pretty confident the crowd will support him, they always have.”
6:22: POWER REMAIN CONFIDENT
Port Adelaide assistant coach Tyson Goldsack says the Power remain confident with the balance of the side despite five changes to the side that faced Adelaide last week.
Speaking to Fox Footy pre-game, Goldsack said “we think the balance is still where it needs to be”.
When asked how the Power would navigate Tom Hawkins’ milestone game, the former Collingwood defender was unaware of his accomplishment.
“Sorry ‘Hawk’,” he quipped.
6:18: FINAL TEAMS
Geelong has named Oisin Mullin as its substitute in tonight’s blockbuster clash against Port Adelaide.
Francis Evans has been named as the Power’s sub.
Neither team has had a late change.
