DEFENCE

Just one defender was picked by all seven experts – Sydney’s Matt Roberts. Harry Sheezel featured in six teams, locking him into the consensus side. There was no agreement on a second high-priced defender, but lots of love for value picks Jayden Short and Harry Perryman. We’re going with a four-rookie set-up down back – Ben Paton was the most popular cheapie among our experts.

MIDFIELD

If you hear anyone say everyone is picking the same team this year, it’s fake news. From seven experts there were 25 different names in the midfield – this will be a fun season! Clayton Oliver was the only unanimous selection, with high-priced rookies Elijah Tsatas, Mitch Knevitt, Levi Ashcroft and Finn O’Sullivan close behind.

There were five options for M1 with Neale taking the honours, while the experts are chasing value in the form of Adam Cerra (five of seven sides) and Connor Rozee (four).

Will Day and Finn Callaghan were each selected in three expert teams, but the exciting young Giant fit in the salary cap, so he gets the nod here. Nick Daicos was in just one.

RUCK

Tom De Koning appeared in all but one expert team, in either the ruck or Flex. Max Gawn and Tristan Xerri were in three teams each, so toss a coin – you really can’t go wrong with either.

FORWARD

Things are a lot more settled in this part of the ground, with every expert picking Jason Horne-Francis, Jack Macrae, Caleb Daniel and Bulldogs rookie Sam Davidson. Bailey Smith was in six of seven expert teams while Izak Rankine featured in four.

FLEX

Matt Flynn was the winner as the first-ever SuperCoach AFL Flex starter, but midfielders and forwards also featured in expert sides in this slot. Watching how Flex plays out will be one of the must-watch storylines of 2025.
