Jack Darling, Elliot Yeo and Jeremy McGovern crack the Super Rankings top 8 after Round 9

ALEX Rance has been described as the best defender of his generation but another intercept star is playing better footy right now according to Mark Robinson and Jon Anderson. See Robbo and Ando’s top 20 players for Round 9 and vote on every choice.

Where Eagles dare

HOW do you select three players from the same team in the top eight? Such was the merit of West Coast trio Jack Darling, Elliot Yeo and Jeremy McGovern, we had to.

They played vital roles in one of the hottest games for the year, Yeo performing his own miracle by returning to dominate after limping from the ground with what looked like a serious knee injury.

That was Sunday in Perth, two days after Eddie Betts had played as if the Adelaide Oval was dry despite game-long rain. Oh to have someone who can kick multiple goals in today’s game.

The Magpies do in the ever-evolving Jordan De Goey, as do Melbourne with the skilled Jake Melksham. Both deservedly find their way onto this week’s top 20, joining a pair of regulars in Jack Macrae and Max Gawn.

Macrae is already penned in for next week such is his consistency, while Gawn surely leads the race for All-Australian ruckman. Bryce Gibbs has been similarly good on a weekly basis for the Crows.

In that natural AFL playing field of Shanghai, Travis Boak produced one his finest for Port Adelaide on the same day that his young teammate in Sam Powell-Pepper bounced back from some recent off-field drama.

Jake Lloyd and Jarrad McVeigh ran amok for Sydney against the hapless Dockers, while Dyson Heppell played like a captain should for the Bombers and Cale Hooker was far more than just a fancy hairstyle.

And then there were the AFL’s very own version of the splash brothers in Ben Brown and Jarrad Waite who help reduce GWS to a team outside the top 10.
