Herald Sun Super Rankings: Mark Robinson and Jon Anderson rate the top 20 players from Round 14

THIS season it’s all been about Max Gawn and Brodie Grundy but Essendon’s Tom Bellchambers has given big men everywhere the blueprint to beat one of the most feared ruck combinations in the competition. See Robbo and Ando’s Super Rankings top 20.

HE may not be the most fashionable big man in the caper, but last Thursday night Tom Bellchambers showed every ruckman how the west can be won.

The 28-year-old took on the Nic Naitanui-Scott Lycett duo and gave them a hiding, setting up a victory that keeps the Bombers’ faint finals light flickering.

Just as dominant but in a different fashion was the silky Josh Kelly of GWS, a player who is once again about to receive life-changing offers given he’s out of contract at the end of next year.

Kelly’s skills were mirrored by those of Shaun Higgins, a player who has peaked in his 30th year as he challenges for All-Australian selection for the first time.

Then there is Tom Jonas, little known to most Victoria AFL fans but a god to those who love the Power due to his defensive expertise.

His teammate Sam Powell-Pepper has become a tackling machine, and when he applies them they stay applied.

And what about the Cripps-Curnow show at the MCG on Sunday where the two young Carlton tyros highlighted yet again why Carlton has a future.

Maybe that future would look better if Billy Gowers was still at the club judging by his performance against the Kangaroos, although the challenge is for him to keep producing that level.

At Essendon Devon Smith and Adam Saad conclusively proved just why the Bombers chased them so hard over summer, while an old-timer named Luke Hodge wound the clock back for his new team named the Lions.
