Essendon young gun Aaron Francis overlooked for Mark of the Year despite huge grab
ESSENDON might have missed the finals but would have thought they were in the running for another gong when Aaron Francis leapt high in their final game of the year. But the Bomber's huge grab isn't a finalist in 2018 Mark of the Year honours.
BRISBANE livewire Charlie Cameron has the chance to pull off a mark and goal of the year double after the final shortlists were revealed today.
Cameron's brilliant snap against Gold Coast and his skyscraper grab against the Hawks have both been nominated, along with a pair of bicycle kicks from Tiger Jack Higgins and Swan Luke Parker.
But Bomber Aaron Francis has been left out.
Francis took an instant classic when he stood on the head of Paddy Ryder and teammate Adam Saad in Round 23 (see picture below).
But the mark was overlooked as one of the year's top three.
Last year's mark of the year caused controversy when Joe Daniher claimed the prize over high-flying Magpie Jeremy Howe.
MARK OF THE YEAR NOMINEES
Isaac Heeney v Melbourne
Charlie Cameron v Hawthorn
Michael Walters v West Coast
GOAL OF THE YEAR NOMINEES
