Stars, shocks in Team of the Year
AN OLD Cat and a young Hawk join superstars Ablett, Cox, Pendlebury and Co in Ando's Team of the Year. Have your say from 9am.
FOR sheer consistency look no further than players such as Dean Cox, Travis Cloke, Scott Pendlebury and Marc Murphy as standouts in our Team of the Year side.
This is a team based solely on selections in the Team of the Week which was run over 24 rounds this season.
In specific positions, those unlucky to miss included the following.
Defenders: Dustin Fletcher, Matthew Scarlett, Josh Gibson and Harry Taylor were in competition with Luke McPharlin for the third tall defensive role. And in terms of running backmen, Shannon Hurn and Heath Shaw (despite missing eight games) were rivals for Chris Yarran’s spot.
In the midfield those in consideration included Brent Moloney, Leigh Montagna, Brendon Goddard, Matthew Boyd, Scott Thompson, Jude Bolton, Jobe Watson, Trent Cotchin, James Kelly and Matt Priddis.
Up forward the unluckiest would have been Fremantle jet Nathan Fyfe (five nominations) Dale Thomas, Drew Petrie, Michael Hurley and Matthew Pavlich.
People will look at Pavlich and declare he had a poor season by his impeccable standards, but he also had five games deemed good enough to make Team of the Week sides.
For those interested in an alternative team of lesser known names who received at least one nomination, check this one out:
Backs: Nick Lower, Luke Thompson, Matthew Watson, Andrejs Everitt, Tom Williams, Zac Dawson
Midfield: Will Minson, David Armitage, Shane Savage, Jason Tutt, Ryan Bastinac, Clinton Jones
Forwards: Ricky Petterd, Leigh Brown, Cam Pedersen, Kyle Reimers, John Butcher, Lindsay Gilbee
Inter: Jed Adcock, Tom Bellchambers, Kepler Bradley
Substitute: Ben Speight
Coach: Dean Bailey
