St Kevin’s College best football team of the past 50 years

Premiership stars, best and fairests and a Norm Smith medallist have all come out of St Kevin’s. But who is the school’s biggest star? Vote now.

Ten VFL/AFL premierships highlight a dazzling team of St Kevin’s College graduates who have shone at the top level over the past 50 years.

Former Brisbane Lions champions Brad and Chris Scott have four of those premierships between them and make up part of a star-studded backline.

Brad played 211 AFL games for Hawthorn and Brisbane, while Chris played 215 games for the Brisbane Bears and Brisbane Lions.

The pair also both went on to be senior coaches after their playing careers were over, Chris at Geelong and Brad at North Melbourne.

Former Sydney midfielder-forward Ryan O’Keefe is another two-time premiership player to come from St Kevin’s College, where he was a school football team captain.

O’Keefe played 286 games for the Swans, kicking 261 goals.

Along with the premierships, O’Keefe also won the 2012 Norm Smith Medal as best-on-ground in the Grand Final and won the Bob Skilton Medal as Sydney’s best and fairest in 2009.

Western Bulldogs duo Lachie Hunter and Tom Liberatore both played in the 2016 premiership, while Josh Mahoney (Port Adelaide, 2004) and Michael Bowden (Richmond, 1969) also won flags at the top level.

Gold Coast midfielder Touk Miller is a two-time club best and fairest with the Gold Coast Suns, while Greater Western Sydney onballer Tim Tarranto won the Giants’ best and fairest in 2019.

Collingwood forward Jordan De Goey, who was the Magpies leading goalkicker in 2018, is also a former St Kevin’s product.

Western Bulldogs forward Mitch Wallis and Adelaide ruckman Reilly O’Brien are other current AFL players to hail from St Kevin’s.

Selection criteria: Any player who played at VFL/AFL level from 1971 onwards was considered eligible for selection. Selection was based on achievements only at VFL/AFL level and not achievements at school level or in other competitions.
