Qantas is offering footy fans a second opportunity to score a deal on flights to Melbourne for the AFL grand final. And there’s a get-out clause if a passenger’s team doesn’t make it.

Exclusive: Qantas is offering footy fans a second opportunity to score a deal on cheap flights to Melbourne for the grand final weekend in September.

And the four-day sale — which has just kicked off — comes complete with a get-out clause if a passenger’s team doesn’t get a chance to battle for the Holy Grail at the MCG on Saturday, September 28.

The Back Your Team early-bird sale allows fans to secure a seat at a knockdown great price instead of waiting until the last minute when airfare prices can skyrocket and the only seats available are more flexible fares.

Footy fans are getting a second opportunity to score a deal on cheap flights to Melbourne for the grand final weekend in September.

Qantas will again waive the $99 standard change fee if a passenger’s team doesn’t make it to the grand final and they have to cancel their trip to Melbourne.

Passengers can then use the fare as credit towards any other flight over the next 12 months.

The Back Your Team fares are for travel to and from Melbourne on selected dates between September 26 and October 1 from Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.

The prices are: Perth to Melbourne from $399 one way (direct services only), Adelaide to Melbourne from $169 one way, Sydney to Melbourne from $169 one way and Brisbane to Melbourne from $175 one way.

Qantas will waive the $99 standard change fee if a passenger’s team doesn’t make it to the grand final.

Qantas Domestic CEO Andrew David said the national carrier wanted to give more people the opportunity to secure their flights at a great price and ensure they didn’t miss out.

“Grand final season is always a busy time for travel, especially as it coincides with school holidays, and by the time fans know their team has made it to the big game many of the cheaper seats on flights have sold out,” he said.

“We’re giving footy fans a second chance to score a deal on flights to Melbourne knowing they can put their fare towards any other flight with no flight change fee if their team doesn’t make the grand final.

“After hundreds of confident fans took advantage of our first offer in March, we wanted to give more people another opportunity to back their team and to secure their flights at a great price.”

Footy fans can book via the dedicated website qantas.com/footyfinals. Customers should look for the specially marked ‘Back Your Team’ fares when booking. Special fares are available until 11.59pm on Sunday, July 14 AEST (unless sold out prior).
