Miles Bergman has shut down speculation linking him to a return to Victoria at season’s end.
The 22-year-old utility, who has sparkled in defence in recent weeks for Port Adelaide, reportedly considered a move to his home state last year before re-committing to the Power until the end of 2025.
Amid a dwindling trade and free agency market, Bergman’s name has continued to be thrown up, with clubs attracted by his versatility and significant upside.
But Bergman has reassured Port Adelaide supporters he’s going nowhere.
“I love it at Port Adelaide,” he said on SEN SA.
“Obviously it all blows up a little bit, but just to clarify I am staying at Port.
“If (there’s) anyone that’s still on the edge, I will be here next year.”
Asked whether he would consider a long-term deal to stay in South Australia, Bergman said: “Just (focused) on getting this year done and playing some good footy,” he said.
“Hopefully getting all the way.”
The Sandringham Dragons product has previously said “Port Adelaide is like home to me”.
As the Crows aim to ruin Port Adelaide’s top-four charge with a boilover in Saturday night’s derby, Bergman said the Power would be on red alert.
“We want to make finals. We want to go as far as we can. This is another opportunity to really assert ourselves and get where we want to go,” he said.
Bergman, the No.14 draft pick from 2019, has averaged 15.8 disposals and 6.6 marks a game this year and emphasised the importance of his role as one of Ken Hinkley’s swingmen in the midfield and defence.
He was full of praise for mid-season draftee and fellow backman Logan Evans, who has been a revelation since debuting in round 15 and will feature in his first Showdown this weekend.
“He’s been really good. He’s learning every week and he’s getting really good opportunities,” Bergman said.
“It’s great to see him improving and I think he’s going to be a star.”
