No punishment over Dustin Martin Mad Monday video

The AFL’s investigation into the Dustin Martin Mad Monday video featuring a topless woman has been completed.

The AFL will not punish Dustin Martin over the leaked video which appeared to show him touch the breast of a topless woman during Mad Monday celebrations.

The incident, which took place in 2015 but came to light in the hours before Richmond’s AFL final against Brisbane, saw Martin reaching around from behind the woman and grabbing her breast as she sits on the lap of another gentleman.

This was back in early September and saw footy great Garry Lyon calling the incident “the AFL’s worst nightmare on the launch of this finals series”.

But the Herald Sun reported on Monday night Martin had dodged a sanction from the AFL over the incident.

It was not at a sanctioned club event and the woman did not and has not complained about Martin’s conduct.

An AFL spokesperson confirmed to the Herald Sun there would be no further action taken.

It also reported: “The AFL’s respect and responsibility policy is a victim-led policy, which means the absence of a complaint makes it more challenging – but not impossible – to leverage penalties.”

Martin is set to return to Richmond in December for pre-season training after an injury-hit year and speculation he could head north away from the Victorian AFL bubble.

However he will honour the final two years of his deal.

The 31-year-old is widely regarded as one of the greatest players the AFL has seen.

But, despite his on field heroics, he has a long list of off-field controversies that have plagued his career.

In 2012, he received a two week suspension from the club for missing a training session.

In 2013, he was caught running a red light, and in 2014 he was fined after driving suspended.

In 2015, Martin was accused of making threats inside a Japanese restaurant in Melbourne.

Dusty has endured a tough past 12 months after his father Shane, 54, died at his Mt Maunganui home in New Zealand on December 17, 2021.

Shane died of cardiovascular disease with drugs and steroids in his system.

Subsequent post-mortem tests found Mr Martin had a 600g enlarged heart, about double the size of an average man’s heart.
