NICK Dal Santo is open to playing on next season as rival clubs circle the discarded Kangaroo after being told he won’t be offered a contract at North Melbourne for 2017.
The slick midfielder confirmed on Thursday night there has been interest from other clubs in extending his career beyond this season.
But Dal Santo is yet to make up his mind about playing on as his focus remains on ensuring Saturday night’s elimination final against Adelaide isn’t his last game in Kangaroos colours.
“I don’t know what’s going on next year in regards to myself,” Dal Santo said.
“I have heard that there has been interest. (But) I’ve had no part in talking to anybody.
“I am open to ideas but by saying that, that doesn’t mean I’m definitely playing on.
“My first priority and my only priority right now is three days time, playing in a final. I’m fully committed to that and have been for the last two weeks in regards to training since I found out that I won’t be there next year.”
Dal Santo is one of four veteran Kangaroos who won’t be at Arden St next year after coach Brad Scott told Brent Harvey, Drew Petrie and Michael Firrito they also won't be offered contracts for 2017.
The 32-year-old wanted to play on with Nortth Melbourne for at least one more season, with a view to potentially extending his career into 2018.
But he won’t be making a call on his future, or meeting with potential suitors, until after his team’s season is over.
“Two weeks ago I was hoping to play for North Melbourne for at least one more year and see what happens after that,” he told The Footy Show.
ELIMINATION FINAL: ROOS NOT READY TO FAREWELL STARS
“I’m at least open to the idea that there might be something else out there for me that I didn’t expect to be two weeks ago.
“There are other things outside of football that I really enjoy as well that at some stage I would like to pursue.
“I haven’t made up my mind, I haven’t even considered it because my priority, my time, my energy is going into my football at North Melbourne at the moment.
